Best gluten-free pizza in Asheville & I appreciate the vegan options!
Chicken on vegan pizza!. We’ve been here several times. It’s pretty good, although usually the servers are the type that act like they are doing you a favor. My husband and I always get Holy Shiitake pie. My kids get cheese or spinach/feta white pizzas and calzones. My husband and I enjoy the large beer selection.Last time we went was for my daughter’s birthday. 8 of us were seated quickly, and our server was better than average. She brought my husband samples of beer, so he was happy. My sister, however, got a vegan, Daiya cheese pizza with chunks of chicken on it! She thought it was tofu till she bit into it. My husband and I verified that it was chicken and I told the server. She was apologetic, and said it must have fallen onto the pizza during preparation. That’s a pretty drastic boo-boo, in my opinion, especially when vegan pizza costs more and vegans are pretty darn grossed out by meat. She didn’t get a replacement pizza or a discount. My sister was too nice to make a scene, but she was horrified-plus she paid extra for a vegan pizza with meat on it. The biggest problem with this restaurant is the service. I’ve been a server most of my adult life, so I know it’s not that hard to be courteous, thoughtful, and attentive. Most of the time, Mellow Mushroom falls short on these basics.
Simply awful! Crust was mushy…sauce and cheese were tasteless.
More disappointing than usual. In the beginning, when The Mushroom was just an Atlanta thing, I was in love with the place. The version we got in Asheville had food that was good but something was not quite as good as the Atlanta locations. What we also got was an irritating, disinterested waitstaff that usually left me angry after most visits. On my most recent visit, we were more interested in our conversation than going through the newly expanded menu, so we ordered our standard Calzones thinking that would be a safe bet. What arrived contained maybe half the filling and no kidding, had at least three inches of thick under baked rust on either end.I’ll be back again to see if the pizza has changed for the worse like the calzones,but it will be a while. I’m afraid Mellow Mushroom has slipped into a greedy ($10 calzone) place where they feel their Asheville cool will always work. Especially with the tourists..
M.M. Asheville. Great food, great service, great beer selections, good vegetarian selections. Pizza sauce and crust..yum. When it’s warm great outside space and I can have my dog.
Bomb Vegan Pizza. For all you vegans who miss pizza: Go to Mellow!!! They have Daiya as a sub and their crust is vegan!!!! Just make sure you let your server know you are vegan. The crust is INCREDIBLE!!! Even their gluten-free crust is vegan… and DELICIOUS! Good selection of vegan beers as well. Cool atmosphere.
