Sorry we went. The menu looked interesting so we went in about 1:30. We asked the waiter what was on tap and he said there are twenty and he prefers not to name them all. We ordered a dish from the menu that said it had shrimp and a spicy cocktail sauce. When it came with no sauce we asked about it and he said he was sure they didn’t have anything like that in the back but he would just make something with ketchup at the bar. Finally we heard him tell two others at a nearby table that they weren’t the only two customers in the room and they would just have to wait. Other than us they WERE the only ones.! Even if every Asheville restaurant can’t be my favorite one I have never been sorry to have spent my money at one until now.
Olive, please!. My go-to place. Always know we will get great food and when there is live music it is magical!Great place to take friends, visitors and to meet new people.
First – and last – visit. After being seated promptly at 8pm for our reservation, my wife and I noticed the table was a little wobbly. Too focused on the unfamiliar menus, we didn’t say anything about it. Ten minutes later, we were greeted by our waitress – the hostess, actually – and we ordered drinks. When the drinks arrived several minutes later, we asked to be seated at a different table, as the wobbly table was causing more of the $9 martinis to hit the table than our lips. Once reseated, we ordered our meal. Heatseeker Shrimp (which was very good) as an appetizer. Steak and shrimp, potatoes and garden salad for her. Ribeye, potatoes, and red cabbage slaw for me. First to arrive were the entrees – sans her salad and my slaw, and somehow before the appetizers. The steaks looked great, but they were so rare, at one point I thought I heard the ordered-as-medium-rare cuts moo when poked with a fork. A few minutes later, the salad and slaw were delivered; ten minutes after that we got our appetizer. Poor meal, great martinis (except the second martini that was ordered, but never delivered). The 42nd Street band was also a bright spot in the visit.
The food was very good – we had the heat seeker shrimp ( basically bang bang shrimp from bonefish grill), the pimento cheese and a ribeye. All very good. They were out of the mussels which was very disappointing, but they made up for it with an impressive wine list. Our service was pretty awful, we were left for about 30 min at the end of the meal with nothing to eat and empty drinks, with no sign of our waitress. There was a live blues band playing, so it was very noisy, but the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. We would come back.
Very nice service and music. Unlike other reviews, we had a wonderful dinner last Sat. Night. Delicious appetizers, excellent entrees, great service, and the most wonderful live music this side of New York City.
Rude and Dismissive. I would NOT waste your time and money at Olive or Twist! My husband and I took my dad there for his birthday and were VERY disappointed. The atmosphere is fine, but the service was severely lacking, We waited 1 hour for our food after we ordered it. When it finally did arrive at our table, the appetizers, soup and salad were all delivered at the same time. Our entrees arrived 10 minutes later. The soup was hardly warm and the chicken satay was dry. When my stepmother requested mustard for her sandwich, the waitress brought a bottle nasty, crusty and dirty bottle of French’s mustard. When I brought it to the Manager’s attention he was rude and dismissive. We promptly paid our bill, in full, with no complaint, but will never return.
