Excellent burger, good atmosphere and service. We went to Storm & Rhum tonight before the Ann Dunn/Asheville Ballet production of The Nutcracker, which was excellent. I enjoyed my cheeseburger (a good value at $12.50 with fries), Absolut on the rocks (well priced at $6.50) and a glass of special Christmas pale ale draft ($5). The burger may not be up to Atlanta’s Holeman & Finch standards, but it was good enough for me, not too big, not too small and with an excellent toasted bun. The burger and fries were served on a heated plate, a bit like Ruth’s Chris, which helped. My companion was not as impressed with her order of shrimp and grits — with broccoli and butternut squash and soupy grits this version is hardly your classic Low Country dish. We struck up a conversation with the couple who sat next to us (most of the deuce tables are quite close together); he liked his ribeye special, but she didn’t care for her filet.Service was very friendly and efficient, and I like the atmosphere at Storm & Rhum. It’s not at all a New Orleans-style restaurant, but it has a kind of New Orleans feel to it. The cocktail selection is excellent, especially (of course) in the rum arena.Although it’s slightly off the main restaurant beaten path in Asheville, about five blocks south of Patton on South Lexington, there’s free parking across the street, and the restaurant was hopping on this Saturday night. With two main dishes, three drinks, a beer, tax and tip the meal came to near $75 — you could spend more here, or less, depending on whether you got entrees or small dishes and how much you drink. I’ll be back for the burger.
Bad experience at Storm….. We had been to Storm previously and had a wonderful meal in a comfortable atmosphere. However, this past weekend, we had a really mediocre meal in a hot, crowded, uncomfortable place. The hostess who greeted us at the door was less than friendly was downright surly as the night went on. The menu was limited, with fewer choices than we had remembered. The noise level was extraordinary. The Sheepshead I ordered was overcooked and the vegetables were undercooked. The Brussels Sprouts were downright raw. The duck breast for my dining companion was tough and chewy. At $125 per couple, we expected more.
You have to go here. Food and service were exceptional. The pork shoulder was the best I ever had. The restaurant is s little off the beaten path, but find it!
Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Will eat here again next time I’m in town.
Another Great Asheville Addition. Asheville is a tough town if youre a restaurant. The bar is set high and the people in this town respect and expect great food. For me, its always difficult to pick a spot to hit in Asheville because there are so many top notch restaurant choices. Storm is definitely one of these restaurants. They have a small menu (which I view as a strength), and they execute it well. Thus far Ive only had the opportunity to try the pan roasted duck and the braised pork shoulder, but I look forward to the opportunity to sample more of the menu this coming October. On a side note, they do have a good local beer menu, and the liquor…Well the name of the restaurant says it all. Also, not to say its not kid friendly and Ive never been given that impression, but its not really the place that I would take my three year old. Others may disagree.
Great food and drinks! They have a really fun mixed drink menu. We liked everything we tried. The food was amazing. We started with pimento cheese dip which has bacon jam on top. Very good combination of flavors. I had the pork belly for appetizer and it was fantastic. Great piece of meat with awesome flavors. I had rtheir pork hop special which was probably the best pork chop I’ve ever had. The shrimp and grits was good with lots of shrimp but it was a little small on the serving size. The mushroom soup was amazing. Two people at our table had the gnocchi which they said was as good as they have ever had. The service was fantastic and the host were as friendly as it gets. They were happy to seat us even though we were in hour early for our reservation!! Highly recomend.
Great cocktails, delicious food, unique atmosphere. Someplace I look forward to going to again!
