Not impressed. The restaurant was packed with folks that looked like they knew Thai food. We had fresh spring rolls – OK but couldn’t detect any shrimp and only had one cut into fourths versus most that serve two cut in half; Yum Tom soup was broth with tomatoes, green onions and tofu with very little flavor for a dish that is usually wildly complex; crispy spring rolls were average at best; and fried calamari was a joke. They looked like Burger King onion rings they were so heavily battered, looked as if they were packaged frozen from Sam’s, not even Costcos. Would not go back, but the place was pacvked with diners who looked satisfied and happy. Didn’t see any dishes there I wish I had tried. This is a very average Thai restaurant and am baffled that it rates the best in Asheville. Proceed with caution.
Lackluster curry. I love Thai flavors, and my dish was lacking in all of them. Plus from-frozen veggies and baby corn in my veggie curry?? No thank you.
We loved it! I had the coconut shrimp and roasted duck salad. Husband had honey beef and spring rolls. Very good and good service.
Best Thai in town!. I love this place. The food is fresh and authentic. When you order Thai hot, you get it. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you receive.
Ordinary. To be fair, we had a bad start. On a busy Friday night we were told we were in for a 20 minute wait which stretched out to an hour. The final straw was when a group of 5 who walked up were going to be given a table ahead of our group of 4. We were told they had priority over our smaller group. When we protested we were finally given a table. The service was then quite good. A perusal of the menu quickly revealed that we weren’t really in a Thai restaurant. Thai’s don’t serve Chinese food and they don’t serve fortune cookies and they don’t use chop sticks. So you can be pretty sure that whoever is in the kitchen didn’t grow up in Thailand. The food: I’ve been eating Thai for decades having lived in Australia, which is saturated with Thai restaurants, and having been to Thailand a couple of times, I found the food to be just barely average. The red curry duck was drowning in coconut milk, typical of chef’s who believe that coconut is supposed to be the main flavor and not one of a melange of subtle notes. The Kai Kaprow (Thai basil beef) was better but not remarkable. The bellwether Pad Thai was similar: boring. The saut chicken was also bland, chicken on a stick with peanut butter. Conclusion: There are certainly better Thai restaurants in Asheville and far better if you go to Hendersonville.
Not only the best Thai food I have ever had, but one of the best meals I have ever had…. Despite the fact they were overrun with tourists (like us ) for leaf season. The chicken larb was the best I have ever had. The pad kra prow was fantastic with beef that was so tender and flavorful. My wife loved their custard curry dish, which she said deliciously solved the age old tummy curry dilemma. Loved it. I wish I lived here.
