Aggressively toxic. I don’t write food reviews. The only reason I am writing this one is to firmly stick this awful experience in my mind so that I never, for-never ever eat at Suwana’s Thai Orchid again. I’m in the middle of a crazy deadline at work and the last thing that I ate (yesterday) was a loan remaining single packet of instant grits. I’m starving. I’ve had mixed results with Suwana’s before and so I ordered a buffet just in case.- Tom Kha and Tom Yum, Yellow Curry and Red Curry, and Som Tum (papaya salad) and Yum Nuer (steak salad). That said- this is the absolute worst Thai food I’ve ever had. My first bite- of the yellow curry was noxious. I had one bite and had to take it outside the taste/smell was so bad. I gagged when I saw the thick sediment of completely raw yellow curry powder and chili powder. The same can be said of the red curry- all I taste (and see) is raw spice. After taking the yellow curry outside I found myself taking one bite of each of the other dishes trying to settle on just one that was remotely palatable. I tempered a few bites of curry with a splash of tom kha just to get it down. Both soups have never met galangal or a kaffir lime leaf- the two ingredients that give both of these dishes definition, depth and distinguish them from chicken both and coconut milk. I find it annoying that both soups are sprinkled with itty-bitty little shrimp while one butterfly shrimp snubs its nose at the whole lot. It would be better if Suwana’s had just used the little shrimp- they could feign ignorance or bad taste as opposed to suffering both and looking like cheapskates too. The steak in the yum nuer is dry, tough and the dish has no flavor other than that of white table sugar. The Som Tum is actually the least offensive but its at least a day old, as its only 1 o’clock and its freaking me out with its withered volume of mini shrimp and the single limp calamari ringlet hiding in the bruised greens. I ended up throwing it all away. Thank god for rice.
