Old School Diner, A Little Worn. It is amazing how many times I come to Burlington/Graham/Mebane area from Greensboro to eat lunch. The area just to seems to have more, and better, lunch places from seafood (Harborview & Hursey’s BBQ) to BBQ (Hursey’s & Simithfield) to Burgers & Dogs (Zacks, Danny’s, Skidds, & Jim’s among others). I sometimes forget about this place, maybe because I gravitate towards Zack’s so much. But this place, just around the corner from both Zack’s and Danny’s, serves some pretty good, uncomplicated food at breakfast and lunch, and the place has been around nearly as long as Zack’s.Breakfast fare is available all day, and I am incline once in a while to have standard breakfast food for lunch. It is good here, and all the usual suspects are available, and good. The burger and hot dogs are solid, small town diner good – not the best I’ve had, even in Burlington, but solid. The chili is a little different from most Southern chili, in that it tastes more of tomato, with a edge of sweetness – like a lot of the chili you find in Greek run restaurants – Zack’s excluded. This time of chili is very prevalent in the Winston Salem area. The fries are good, as well. The serve a cheese dog here – a real cheese dog. A block of cheese is substituted for the wiener, and then dressed as you like. Interesting but not my cup of tea. They serve some meat and 2 plates here, and the spaghetti is very good. The service here is always good, and while the interior is not particular bright and shiny, it is roomy and comfortable. There is counter seating, booths, and tables. The place is always loaded with regulars , a good sign for any diner, and the owner will talk your ear off if not too busy. This is blue collar food, and a good rendition if it.
