Every region of the country has some guilty pleasure fast food place with late night hours with food priced right. On the west coast it is hard to beat In and Out Burger. In Texas you have Whataburger. Five Guys is another, but the close at 10 or so and while they are good they aren’t as cheap and not open as late. Culvers in the Midwest also good but they too close too early.In the Carolinas and that region the honor goes to Cook Out, simple fast food, with a bigger than you would expect menu at a price point where you could feed the family from money from the change jar. Charcoal burgers, shakes and lots of fried options, what’s not to like? Not sure how they can do it for the prices, and love the double sided drive through for all the people that learned the secret of good cheap food at all hours.Ten bucks goes a long long way here.If you haven’t been to a Cook Out you are missing out, join the long line of cars, it moves faster than you expect. Wikipedia tells me they have 244 locations in 10 states, so lots of places where you ca n enjoy this Greensboro NC chain. I’m normally not a fan of chains but this one has figured out how to turn out a good tasting cheap meal pretty much any hour of the day or night, maybe not 24 hours, but I don’t recall ever a time when I was looking for a burger I found them closed. For the price it really can’t be beat.

I have to admit to working here during high school and some of college, and this is the only food place I worked as a youngster(and there were a few) that I never grew tired of the food. Now as an adult with a family, when we are short on time and crave some backyard grilled food and don’t want to do the work, we slide on through Cook-Out. The hours are ridiculous, something like 10 am- 1 am weekday and 3 am weekends…

Awsome fast food burgers. Better than the other chains and waay better than Zack’s. Milkshakes are great too…
