Tip Disputes. If you have mandatory gratuity issues, pay the bill with a credit card. Write a letter requesting a gratuity refund (or reduction as you see fit). If they don’t respond or refuse to refund, take it up with the credit card company.I’ve once taken it up directly with the manager, too. It was a sports bar that included an 18% gratuity – which is normally fair and I generally add more if service was good. It took over two-and-a-half hours for ‘quick’ food, with us getting our own beers at the bar, finding napkins, and watching her go out for smoke breaks. The manager waived the 18%, and we did leave a bit shy of 10%, since she semi-did some work.As far as Genki, the food is good but I agree the service is dull and not responsive. I’ve not gone with a large party so I’m not sure how much worse it could get.

Best Spicy Tuna. When I lived in Cary, I would get sushi from Genki at least once every week. The spicy tuna roll is the best that I have tried out of any sushi restraunt I’ve eaten at, and the spicy mayonnaise sauce that tops the tuna roll also has great flavor. My favorite specialty rolls are the fireman special (which is spicy tuna with tuna on top and spicy mayonnaise) and the Mary roll. Deep fried lovers would go for the wolf pack roll. Overall, you can’t go wrong when ordering sushi here. The other food that I’ve ventured out to try wasn’t all that great, but the sushi is wonderful.

This is one of our favorite spots. We try and get there before 6 on Fridays else you will have to wait awhile.

Excellent Sushi. Best value/quality in RTP for Sushi! I also like the Volcano Roll and ice cream desert! Try it!! I eat there at least every other week!!!! Two thumbs up!!!

Food yes, Service, no. It’s too bad that the service is poor, because the food is good. The prices are in keeping with other sushi restaurants in the area, and the dining room is nice. There is a good range of flavors reflected in the menu. The meal, itself, was fine. Everything was very fresh and well-prepared. I was very put out when our waitress scribbled out the automatically included 18% tip for our party, in hopes of having more added on, then was skittish when asked for clarification. We usually tip 20%. Not that night. I may go back for the food, but I’m very clear on the quality of service.

Great Sushi, Neutral Service. I agree that the service at Genki is, at best, neutral. This restaurant seems staffed by introverts but I have never found them offensive. The nigiri sushi, on the other hand, is excellent – quite a surprise for a small restaurant in an out-of-the-way strip mall in Apex. I particularly enjoyed the hamachi and white tuna, though the salmon was also exceptional. I recently had far less interesting but much more expensive sushi at Wasabi. Genki is MUCH better.
