Good but overhyped. I went to Herons this past week. long story short, 9 people had a $500.00 spending limit and we were looking for a good time. first off, this place is lavish, and we were put in a back dining room with a table for about 12. the room was very elegant and decorated very well. The service is TOP NOTCH. definitely a lives up to the quality of establishment. Food – Solid, but really? for the money is a bit overpriced. The portions are small just like any fancy place but really the favors were not justified by the price. i had a salad, bacon wrapped quail, and a salmon dish that was really fantastic. however, if i had paid about $60 for my own meal, i would have been slightly disappointed. Everything was cooked well, but for what we paid i expected slightly better food. This was just the lunch menu too, dinner gets pricier. It is a great place and some may disagree. But for my top dollar, i would say better food can be had elsewhere for less.
Five star hotel & spa, one star restaurant. Upon a recent visit , l’ve decided to write a comment because l’ve never been so impressed with a Hotel , Spa , amenities and staff and so dismayed by their restaurant namely Heron’s . To say l’m critical may be true but l’m a New Yorker who has some quality and quantity as far as eateries and some of my favs are Gotham , Babbo , Gramercy Tavern , Nobu , Maya , Degustation , Del Posto , IL Mulino , Peter Luger’s , Le Bernardin , Picholine , Jean Georges and Per Se …..and so on and so forth . So my point is , l’ve been exposed to some wonderful establishments and my food taste might be different than some . Now back to my comment , my point is that the cuisine in Heron’s is non descript and doesn’t have an identity . The food upon my most recent visit was not a good experience for my guests and l and we found the busiest man in a very slow restaurant to be the ”bread man” and he became our ”go to ” guy . The entrees were either overcooked [ the chicken ] , overseasoned [ the chicken , the tuna ] , bland [ the corn soup , the halibut which was a substitute that evening] , and so underwhelming that l didn’t mind being served a miniscule portion and even the server , who was extremely professional couldn’t help but apologize for my guest’s order of a so called rack of lamb as was described that appeared with three small bite sized slabs of lamb that my guest was actually at a loss for words because of it’s small size and yet grandiose manner brought to the table . The service was perfect . The restaurant actually had five tables during the entire service l was there and no wonder why . Being a great restaurant takes time , effort and creativity , not serving dishes which l recall were popular ”foo-foo” food trying to draw attention in the mid 80’s . The restaurants l frequent are fairly expensive and my criticism is not about the money but restaurants can create memories … the papardelle or rack of lamb at ll Mulino [btw the rack here is a FULL rack of lamb] , the osso bocco at Babbo , the scallops at Le Bernardin , the porterhouse at Luger’s , the miso cod at Nobu , the careful attention to the cheese course at Picholine , and l think you get the message . Oh and btw a full rack of lamb be it Australian , New Zealand or of domestic variety has 8-9 chops and even 3-4 would be acceptable but shame on the chef’s menu which cannot satisfy by taste alone let alone the insulting presentation of some slight , deconstructed tidbit . My last experience was the fifth time l’ve tried Heron’s . l’d rather order by the pool , the bar or room service . The Hotel’s outstanding in every aspect except one and that will not dismay me enough not to go as l’m of the mindset that the people in charge will realize that with the right wine list , which they have , the right atmosphere , which is lovely that maybe there’s room for change in the kitchen . Hoping my next visit there will bring food memories but as of now the Hotel gets 5 stars and Heron’s 1 star .
Underwhelming. Only been once — on someone else’s dime — would never spend that kind of green for such a place. To be fair I have to go to a place several times before I would indicate whether or not I like or dislike it, so I’ll remain neutral for now. If I were asked to look at pictures of food and rate them, this place would score high marks. I was totally underwhelmed though by the tastes. I will say that the service was very professional: We were well treated, just not well fed.
Go if someone else is paying. Beyond outrageous prices, but it feels worth it somehow. We split an appetizer and each had a main dish. No wine, split dessert, and still managed to spend almost $200. It feels very elegant. Great for a quiet special occasion. Go here if you’re rich and/or want to impress a date. You’ll come out smelling like an expensive rose. Loved the unique food and cozy atmosphere. Service is impeccable. Feels like another state.
Best restaurant in the galaxy!
Very stuffy. Food is interesting, but not very welcoming. If you have allergies or special requests they make you feel like you are being a huge pain. Plus the dress code is incredibly strict for a 4 star restaurant. I was not impressed overall. Food portions were small for the money paid, and the service was pretencious
We like to go here for afternoon tea and scones once or twice a year. It is a very decadent treat! If you can spare the cash, treat yourself!
