I am so happy to find this little place, hiding in a corner of Cary. We stopped for a weekday lunch, and though it is a bit pricier than the usual, the food is good enough for this not to be an issue. My husband and I got a starter of Gyoza. Not my favourite Gyoza, and completely overpriced given the portion size, but the dipping sauce was great.I got the Tempura Udon, and my husband got the Yamakake Udon (with grated yam). The tempura was crisp and yummy. The ramen was great, and made for a very nice lunch on a chilly day. The service was great. The sushi chef was happy to answer questions, and next time we will try their sushi, though I will have trouble staying away from the tempura! Their plum wines seemed very reasonably priced (unless the portion is thimble-sized) but then stay open only till 9.00 pm on most nights.
Good atmosphere, kind staff, we got two sushi rolls, a udon dish and a ramen dish. The two noodle dishes were big servings and had good flavor. The rolls were about average but the fish was fresh and tasted good.
Great Japanese Food. I have been a regular customer for the last 13 years. Great miso soup & ginger dressing for the salad. The sushi is always fresh and great. Paul makes the best spicy tuna hand roll I had had anywhere in the world, including Tokyo. I usually get the deluxe sushi dinner with a spicy tuna hand roll. They are small and it can get crowded, but it is worth the wait if it does.
Reminds me of Japan. We came here because of a recommendation of one of my Japanese coworkers and it was pretty authentic like she said. The decor reminded me a lot of the mom and pop restaurants we would go to when living in Japan. Nothing fancy or modern about it. We started with various sashimi and some age dashi. We were told by our friend they always get a fish order on Fridays and that certainly seemed to be the case. The fish was very fresh and generous slices. The age dashi was cooked perfectly and the broth was well executed. I got the tempura udon and my husband got the katsu don. The shrimp tempura was fried perfectly but some of the vegetables were left in a bit too long and became oily. The udon noodles were surprisingly good but the broth was very salty. My husband said his katsu don was just like we used to get in Japan but he wishes it had come with the customary pickles. Overall I would say if you’re looking for some down to Earth Japanese food this is a good place to come.
Rainbow roll rocks!. The food here is not cheap, but the quality is good. tried their rainbow row, the sashimi is fresh, and the rice tastes authentic
Food was good. Rolls/sushi are better than most in the area, but service isn’t so good. Many customers waiting to be seated for Awhile before being greet by the waitress and it wasn’t that busy. The restaurant lacks of good decor or nice ambience so don’t expect to go there for a romantic dinner or anything. It’s good for just eat and get out.
