Having been a fan of Ruth Chris for many years… I cannot believe the service and quality of the food we were served last night.Reservations were made for two at a quiet table. When we showed up, we were told, they did not have a quiet table but did have a nice booth… ok table booth they are inter changeable to us… when we were lead to the both we had to squeeze sideways behind a chair for a 6 top that was empty. The booth was still set for 4 people (this was a 6:30 PM reservation and only 3 other tables were seated at that time). I would think if you have a table reserved for two, it would be set for two… we were not walk ins…. We were told that *** would be our waiter, 5 minutes later, *** showed up and the first thing he went into was the plates are 500 degrees do not burn yourself speech… then he asked if we wanted water, never asked about drinks or …. Water was poured; I was given a bath as it was. *** finally asked about cocktails.. they were ordered and not screwed up. Extra place settings were removed about the time the cocktails showed up 15 minutes or more after we were seated.Ordered what I thought was the Martini glass chopped shrimp and crab appetizer… 4 jumbo shrimp came out on a bed of lettuce… ***finally took the wine order as the appetizer was delivered, we ordered the house cab… it came while we were still drinking our cocktails, just smelled it… it was fine… but when we finally tasted it… it was flat and bland… not at all what a house Hess should have been. We moved the filled wine glasses to the edge of the table, it should have been clear that they were not being drunk, … 5 minutes later and at least 10 pass bys of staff… we started counting after this became funny they all were avoiding the lineup of wine bottle and wine glasses at the edge of table… the waiter appeared and took it back and we ordered a silver oak cab… which was much better… just as the second bottle was opened our entrees came out… a petite filet and a bone in rib eye. The filet was to be medium plus and the rib eye was medium… The filet was medium minus but my wife has learned to just cut and use the 500 degree plate to cook it herself… by rib eye was medium well on the edge from the bone and medium rare at the tip… it was almost like it was still cold from the fridge when they put it on.. if not frozen… (I know they would not freeze their beef) but that is the best way to describe the differences. My potato was so cold it could not melt sour cream… Both my rib eye and potato went back… Finally the manager came to check… sorry I have been busy I am normally over to tables a few times turning the meal.. I understand there have been some problems…. His solution was to give me a card and say let me know when you are coming back… and then just took off the rib eye and potato… from the bill.. I am not looking for a free meal, just some compassion from an owner and server that hosted a really poor experiences. We travel a lot, spend time in many or equal restaurants.. and this is by far the worst experience we have ever had. We have eaten at this Ruth Chris once or twice a year over the last 5 or 6 years and something big has changed…. We showed up at 6:30 and were out at 8:30… so I am sure my times are too short… Just a really bad experience… and a staff that did not seem to care… Oh Well you are warned… This is not the restaurant it was in the past…. Run, Skip, Hop…. Avoid this place there is a great Texas Steak house two exits west. For 20 cents on the dollar you can get a much better meal.
First time @ RC. I am a pretty well travelled eater but I have to admit I was absolutely speechless at the price of this place. $50 for a steak!! That’s it … add $16 for two sides. Bam $66 for an entree. OMG. I can understand to an extent eating in a Mario Batali etc and saying this but a shopping mall franchise with 1980’s decor and waiters in black tie etc. Feel totally ripped off. I know they will say USDA prime but still. come on. Plus the steaks come on a sizzling plate heated at 500f which is so small a 12oz Strip fills it up .. how do you eat your sides of the same plate.
Good Beef. I still cant get over the fact that these places are franchised and have definitely had some so so experiences at other locations but the one in Cary is a beautiful property and always seems to get it right.
Great Food, but not worth the price. I have to say that the desserts were the best part of the meal.
Don’t believe the hype!. This place should not be considered one of Cary’s best. It is truly in the shadows of nearby Bonefish in every sense of the word. Appalling fact #1: Its dirty! The wine bottles that are highlighted behind the bar have more dust on them than your baby bed in grandma’s attic! . Appalling fact #2: An un-rested steak on fire on a 500 degree plate doesn’t make it special, it just makes it really hot! Appalling fact #3: We realized that the bar and establishment were to close in 40 minutes, but that did not warrant the bartender to start wiping-the-bar-down around us. She must have had a date she needed to rush to? Oh, and I kept ordering the wine you were desperately trying to recork and put away because we were not finished with our meal! You should have asked whomever you were trying to hang-out with later to meet you at the bar! Never rush a paying customer! We are sorry if you were late to your date or girls night out?
Greasy, and Nasty. I ate there once, and only once. That steak shot through me like a Meat Missile. Service was horrible. I was seated right by the kitchen, and every time a waiter walked out, he kicked my chair. All this for $125? Yeah right. We told them it was my wife’s birthday, and our first time there. I would not eat there on a dare. Go to Food Lion and pick up a bottle of wesson, and a ribeye steak, and some boxed mashed potatos, and a case of beer. That is about the quality of the food there. And you will get better service doing it yourself at home.
Great overall. Went with six other friend for dinner a few days ago. The food, sides and steaks were prepared perfectly. The service was especially good. With a larger party it took a while for us to get our act together. The servers made sure all of us got the experience and felt special. A place worth going to for special occasions, with clients, or just because.
