Horrible experience. Walked in 1 hour before closing. Asked to be seated at sushi bar. Regular chef not there anymore. Was told he returned to China and hasn’t returned. Ordered small hot apple flavored saki. Was informed that they have apple flavor but can only be served cold, but if I’d like regular saki, I could have it warm. I went with the regular and it was terrible. Ordered 2 rolls, salad with Ginger dressing and miso soup. The salad was soggy and wilted, The miso soup was so thick with miso that it wasn’t edible. I sent it back.. when it returned they had dumped half of it out and top it off with water and tossed it in the microwave. The owner or management always has their loud kids there because apparently child care isn’t an option. The sushi rolls get done and handed to us. They were deep fried and smothered with sauce. Extremely gooey in the middle and hard crunchy outer surface, you couldn’t tell one roll from the next. No offer of explanation as to what is what. After trying to stomach the rolls the bald white guy can be heard bitching behind the counter about me sending the soup back and what the problem was. On top of everything else it’s closer to closing time and they’ve busted out the cleaning gear. Lovely bleach taste in my mouth with the barley palatable food. Mistakenly look up at the ceiling in the sushi bar only to observe completely clogged brownish black ventilation filters. My wife has diareah this morning. I only had a couple pieces and feel fine. Avoid this place. For a Japanese restaurant / sushi bar, with those prices, if I ask for a to go box your waitress should be placing the items in the box… this place is dirty and has ZERO class. Amazed that this place carries the kobe name. I thought we were being punked. Never again! Ever!

Terrible service. I just have to say, with the average price of a meal being about 22$, I would expect to be treated a little better. We were rushed as soon as we sat down. I was asked what I wanted to eat before I even had my coat on the back of the chair. It took the server 15 minutes to get a beer from the bar. We had to go find our server to ask for a drink refil. We had to go get our take out boxes and even track her down for our check. The chef was great. Our food was amazing. Absolutely no complaints there. My concern is with their wait staff. It was terrible. I don’t normally complain and I have never sent a bad review for a restaurant but this really needs to be addressed. Bad service can make or break a place of business. Step it up Kobe!

Poor Poor Meal – Health Inspector Needed. On Sunday, 1Feb2015, we went to restaurant around 1145am. A total disaster! Combo Steak & Chicken served with no steak, waiter said steak was prepared separate and he would bring out later. Egg roll ordered was served after main dish, told waiter did not want due to when served. Server advised it had been frozen and they had to wait to microwave. We ordered white rice with our meal and it was served cold, and we sent it back. The server said that they had a lot of people call in with the flu and they were trying to catch up. The staff in the back, cooking area was eating. One in the kitchen, which i could see because of my seat at bar, was eating noodles and then he ate MY egg roll when I returned it. Two other servers came out from kitchen eating one with a bowl of noodles. When we complained, no effect or excuse was given. It was apparent they were not interested in repeat customers. If you decide to take a chance here, go after staff has had time to eat and eat at the grill. A huge disappointment. It was party time in the kitchen, no hand washing, no hair nets seen. It’s obvious they don’t the business based on their service and quality of food. Portions were very small.

Terrible food, terrible service, low quality. This place is terrible. Terrible food, terrible service, and rude. Had to wait for over an hour to get our food. After almost an hour of waiting, we told the waitress to cancel the order because we had to leave. She brought the food out and apologized and gave us a 10% discount. Will never go back, ever. The food is not worth it. If you want great sushi and service, go to Kaze. You get better quality sushi for less.

Worst Restaurant in Clayton. I had the worst dining experience (if you could call it that) of my life at Kobe. My family and I simply wanted a nice birthday dinner out and it quickly turned into a nightmare. The waitress got our order wrong at least 4 times, continually bringing out the wrong entree, was very rude from the beginning, argued with us, and tried to correct us on what we ordered. We asked to speak with the manager, who never showed his/her face. We eventually spoke to a hostess who said she would replace the entree. At that point we had waited 30 min+ for all of our food, which was unappealing. The whole ordeal could have been avoided if the hostess handled the situation better, or the manager actually made an appearance. Pathetic and unprofessional. Needless to say, I will never be returning to Kobe.

Worse food ever. Have eaten there many times before food always good….tonight the worse my kids and I have ever had……no flavor except for burnt aftertaste……could not eat chicken shrimp rice or vegetables…..I told the manager he said chef was experienced but I have never seen him in there before……he basically blew me off and said he didnt care….he does not have to worry about this joco native ever eating there again…..would never eat there unless you enjoy bland burnt aftertaste…….wouldnt dare go near the sushi either…

Happy Kobes Diner. Hubby and I have been going to Kobe’s for about 5 years and we have always been very pleased with the service and our meals. Their sushi is always very fresh and well prepared, their shrimp fried rice is served piping hot and their new Chinese menu is delicious. The best General Tzo Chicken I have had anywhere! We go for dinner about once every 2 weeks. It’s that good…Ming, the owner frequently visits our table and chats and I see him doing that with other patrons also. It is very important to Ming that his diners are happy with their meal. Highly recommend!
