Blah. I’m a big fan of food trucks and hole in the wall joints, particularly when it comes to BBQ, their atmosphere and quirkiness adding to the experience. I had high hopes for this truck but was disappointed. I picked up some bulk BBQ, Baked Beans, slaw and Mac N Cheese for a family dinner with our new neighbors invited over. It was higher priced than many other places but I dont mind paying for good food. All of it was blah. No flavor, nothing special, mushy and flavorless. All the dishes. All 8 people commented on it the same way…boring and bland. Hoping I had just gotten some late day remnants and not wanting to rush to judgement I went back a few weeks later and had lunch there. Same results. The owners were pleasant enough but the food uninspired at best. There are a great many better places for BBQ.

Excellent BBQ!. Oh, my. Why has it taken me so long to try Smoke and Go? They usually park their food truck outside the Cashion’s gas station on the corner of Catawba and Sam Furr each Friday and Saturday, so they are easy to find!Their BBQ has a real wood-smoked flavor that is just phenomenal. I have never had BBQ with flavor like this. And it’s chopped, too. The only downsides? And this is really based on personal preference — their sauce is tomato-based, not vinegar-based, and their coleslaw is slightly sweet. I do wish other sauces were available for those of us who prefer the eastern Carolina style of BBQ. However, withBBQ this tasty, I can just skip the sauce!I’ll definitely return for lunch and will absolutely consider them to cater any upcoming parties.
Great Cue in the Summer. The two brother’s who own Smoke and Go have been around for several years and they used to be all over the place with a different place each day. Made in maddening to keep up with them. They’ve kind of settled down to one place now on the corner of Sam Furr Road and W. Catawba Ave in Huntersville and I like that because it makes it easier to find good BBQ.I stopped by for lunch today and had their lunch special which was a chopped pork sandwich, fries and iced tea. The sandwich was great. Meat was tender and flavorful. A little light on the sauce which was good because I tend to prefer Eastern NC Style Sauce and this sauce was just a little on the sweet side so it would have been easy to overwhelm the smoky taste of the meat. Unfortunately the fries were just average but on a mobile food truck, it’s hard to control the oil temperature to get the perfect fry. That said, they were not bad. Iced tea was very good. For some reason, this past week I’ve eated at two places where their idea of sweet tea is that if’s done if the spoon stands us in it. Way too sweet but here, they got it just right.Haven’t tried their brisket this year but in the past, it’s been excellent and would have made our friends in Texas proud.Glad to see they area back on the corner. I think I may just go back again for lunch tomorrow for some ribs.
