Along with Jose and Sons in raleigh probably some of the best mexican in the area. Fantastic margaritas.
Not enjoyable. Made reservation for party of 8 in feb for may graduation. Management want to sit us in the annex, converted garage with rental tables and white sheets hanging on walls! Refused when there was obviously seating available in main restaurant. They did seat us downstairs… Dinner was just ok, service was awful.
Expensive and not satisfying. I don’t believe Mexican food should be expensive especially when deconstructed it is basically beans, rice, and protein. The first time I had breakfast there and the burrito was $9! It was bacon, eggs, and cheese. The second time I ordered chorizo something and that was the cheapest item for $18. There profit margins much be insane because the food tastes like it cost $2 to make.
High hopes dashed to pieces. I went to Dos Perros the first time last night with some guests from out of town. Quite frankly, I was embarrassed to have chosen to take my guests there, especially when the website and menu sounded so good. The service was terrible, and we had to wait nearly 10 minutes to even be approached by our waiter, though it was a quiet Sunday evening and the restaurant was far from busy. It took just as long to receive the drinks we ordered, and even longer for the appetizers. It was also $6 for about 4 oz. of guacamole. I am a professional cook and understand market prices, especially for avocados as we serve guac at my restaurant, and this was insanely over priced for the amount we were served, especially considering that it was served by itself, and wasn’t even made into a guac and chips basket or platter. Though we had a small basket of chips on our table and some killer salsa, I felt that the guac price should have been cut in half considering the amount we were given and the fact that we got no additional chips. The empanadas had good flavor, but weren’t even the size of standard dumplings, (they were roughly 2.5 inches long and about an inch wide) and you were only served two for $8 on a dish that was roughly the size of a teacup saucer. For an entre, my partner and I split the mock-chicken. We loved the balance of flavor, and the cactus was well cooked, but weren’t impressed with the rice and beans the dish was served with. It was also like pulling teeth to get tortillas on the side, something the waiter not only promised us but suggested when we ordered the dish to split. Everything on our plate was monochromatic, there were no garnishes or color to balance out a plate that only consisted of 3 components. For a $14 plate, I’d expect to at least see some variation in the visual presentation of the food, even something as simple as a bit of lettuce and tomato to garnish or a side of salsa. Overall, the meal was not worth having. The flavors were there for a few of the components on our plate, but paired with the horrible and slow service and small, overpriced dishes, our experience was frustrating and expensive instead of relaxing. As someone who cooks for a living and loves food and flavor, I am more than happy to pay for high quality items that are well prepared and beautifully presented. From Dos Perros’s website and menu descriptions, I thought that I had found a place to cater to my palate and that would impress my guests. Sadly, this was not the case.
Nice sangrita to chase my mezcal.. 5 of 5 stars.Recommended: Potato-masa sopes with braised beef, queso fresco, and crema.Grilled shrimp, cucumber, mango salad in a citrus vinaigrette.Lamb enchiladas w/ tomato-red pepper salsa, shredded cabbage, guacamole, queso fresco.Wish we lived closer!About $35 per person, dessert and gratuity not included.
Vegetarian dining experience (dinner). Vegetarian appetizers are good (tamales, empanadas, black bean soup), but the entre (vegan seven chile mole) was so-so.
The seabass special was really mahi. The empanadas were flavorless. This place is a charade… I really question the epicurean naturure of those who rate Dos Perros anything more than a place to over spend on really bland and mislabeled food.
