A+!! Loaf is my favorite treat anytime I find myself in downtown Durham. Pastries are fabulous and so is the bread. You can never leave with just one item. Bonus: they also sell local milk, cheese and peanut butter. The staff are really nice, too. All around wonderful place!

Modern Boulangerie. Having just returned from France and disappointed by the incursion of ‘supermarche’ and the decline in quality and notable absence of fine boulangeries and patisseries in each town, I was delighted to discover LOAF. One of the hallmarks of a properly baked loaf is that dark exterior finish. Americans, sadly, are used to a kind of ‘blonde’ crust that is equally bland. It is the full cook that brings out the yeast flavors and texture of the bread. LOAF gets it right. Their almond croissants and cinnamon buns are also exceptional. Liberal use of butter is evident and the finish on the pastries are by the book, flaky and melt in your mouth. LOAF is a welcome addition to Durham.

Burnt. Spent $6 on a loaf of bread that we could only eat half of. Every loaf looked burnt that they had. Not just the type we bought, EVERY SINGLE LOAF! I find no reason to ever return here. The prices were quite expensive. I make better at home.
