Wonderful little spot. My fist time here the cashier introduced both himself and the cook and gave me a rundown of the menu. I ultimately decided on the soft shell crab roll. The cole slaw they put on it is lemon juice based instead of the regular mayo base and was unexpectedly fabulous. Their half tea-half lemonade was also super refreshing. My only drawback (and this really has nothing to do with the chefs) was I didn’t know they fried the WHOLE crab as is so I got a bit of the weird tasting insides that kind of threw me off (this was also my first time having this type of crab so I don’t blame the chef at all but rather my own ignorance!). Overall though, great food and great service. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Over priced, over rated, on the current trendy list. My wife and I ate there, yesterday, 5/17/14. Won’t go back due to reasons enumerated below.1. after ordering, around 11:30, our two fish sandwiches were delivered after 12. Understand that, since each order is cooked individually. Had about 5 orders in front of us. Two fish sandwiches, two waters, and a teaspoon of slaw each, total cost over $27.00, and you eat outside on park benches, or in your car.2. My oyster loaf was good, but nothing to rave about. My wife’s haddock sandwich was inedible due to lots of paprika and spices.3 In not too savory neighborhood.4. Asked if I could buy a couple of hushpuppies, and was told that I would have to go to the back of the line to order them. Did not do that – would have been another 30 minute wait for two hushpuppies.
A great and unique place. A 20’x20′ restaurant serving ultra-fresh seafood through a window…what’s not to like? The menu is short, and changes with the catch of the day, but everything we had was delicious. The crab grits were a perfect side with the oyster roll!As we learned the hard way, sometimes they sell out of fish and close before their stated hours.
Pretty basic take out place. Really liked the food! Fresh and made to order. Might be a little high priced though. But definitely good to try. Seasoned with a lot of black pepper. I will try and go back. Friendly folks in there.
Best seafood plate in triangle. The raleigh- durham- chapel hill area is filled with way overpriced and very inconsistent restaurants especially seafood- well look no further than the saltbox seafood joint- fresh softshell – fresh bluefish- fresh slaw- fresh potatoes- fresh broccoli- fresh hushpuppies- no scene- no clicks- just fresh food cooked real simple- will be making the 30 mile trip from our house. Regularly
You bet!. In the mood for seafood? We were and headed down here on a recommendation from a friend. My wife had the bbq mahi sandwich, I the whiting platter and both were delicious. The sandwich did come on a pretty bland roll as other reviewers on other sites have pointed out, BUT the bbq mahi made you forget about anything else it was so good. We also had the broccoli which is a must. If you want some good food to take over to full steam look no further. PS – remember there’s no seating here – it’s walkup-takeout only. Enjoy!
