This place is excellent! If you remember the old Magnolia Grill, it’s as if this was their Mexican restaurant – it’s that good! The food is as fresh and local as possible, and prepared individually and painstakenly. Family owned and operated and as genuine as it gets. The food is the star here. The space is very nice inside, but not fancy, and located in an odd mini strip shopping center. The alcohol selection is limited but ample. The service is charming. And there is no better value.
Disappointment. We had heard about this restaurant and thought we would try it. I got the adobo pork which was $17 and my partner got paella which was $18. Both had what appeared to be frozen vegetables in it- they were mushy and in the cube shapes like you’d get in the grocery store frozen food isle. The paella we think also had frozen shrimp instead of fresh shrimp. Disappointing given the prices we paid for the food. I left hungry- the portion was small. Dos Perros does what Tonali is attempting to do. For the same price, Dos Perros is the better option by far.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Tonali’s is almost in our backyard, yet we had to look to find it. The food was outstanding. Paella was marvelous and my wife’s relleno was surprisingly delicious. The margarita is the best we’ve had in Durham, in fact, no others come close. Our server topped off my margarita and won a repeat visit for that alone.
Awesome!!. Great restaurant! Food is fresh and homemade from scratch. Staff is friendly and very family oriented! Small restaurant, great for a date! Everyone must try!!
