Horrible! Do not get ripped off!!!!. Owner was arrogant and rude when we questioned crazy local fish prices ($25 for 3 oz of grouper?????? On a house salad????) our order was incorrect, no one apologized and we were shunned for correcting. They prey on tourists and visitors. Don’t go!!!!!!

Not worth the price. We were looking for a special place to go for a special celebratory evening and were advised to come her. I advise you otherwise. Granted, there is no real fine dining on the island, Swansboro or Jacksonville – I have yet to find fine dining in this entire area! I need to go to Wilmington. Kathryn’s is overpriced. The food is good, even VERY good, but our bill for two was over $140 with only 3 alcoholic drinks! And the atmosphere was crap! Kathryn’s is a LITTLE place in a little strip mall. You walk in and there is a little bar on one side and a very small dining area in front of you and ot the right. There are NO private tables! There are several tables crowded together on the main floor and several along the window walls – that’s it. The charis were VERY uncomfortable and the wait staff was adequate – neither extremely nice nor rude. If you want fine dining – go to Wilmington or Raleigh!

Excellent but pricey. Excellent food, very nice atmosphere, good service. But, seriously, $34 for a fish dish? That is a bit much for even the beach. Worth it for a splurge but there are other more reasonable places.

Great Place!!. This restaurant deserves to be at the top of the list on the Carolina Coast, let alone Emerald Isle.

Best fine dining in EI, but that’s not saying much.. If you’re looking to have an elevated dining experience in the Emerald Isle Vicinity, Kathryn’s is the standard go-to place, because its the only place to go. Literally, this place has no competition, as everything else around is fried seafood and homestyle meals. The bar is great and has an expansive martini selection, but the kitchen hasn’t had an actual chef in 6 years or so; they’ve been rotating old menu items since. The food is French-imitation; sauces are made with slurry instead of roux, most fish (despite being on an ISLAND) is frozen, and the cooks usually have no experience or training. But, again, its the only place to go if you want to pay $20-$30 for an entree. I advise staying clear of the owner, Ken, who also owns local Portofino’s, as his temper is about as short as he is. Again, nobody here except for the bartenders knows what they’re doing, but it somehow works.

Fine Dining on the Island?!?!. You bet it is! If you’re on Bogue Banks and looking for a fine dining experience…this is the place…no fried seafood buffet here! A great place for couples or families, make it as fancy or casual as you’d like..the food is great. The menu is fine, but the specials were exceptional; Grilled Grouper w/crab and Thai chili sauce was awesome…flat iron steak melted in your mouth…try the Cabernet vinagrette dressign on a salad, great flavor. The corn and crab bisque needed a little less salt…more chowder than bisque, but big chunks of crab made up for it. Well done!

The food is good and the martini’s are worth it. The service is friendly. It’s beach friendy In the sense you can get in with shorts shirt & sandles. Best for dates or family though.
