Poor Customer Service. Today I witnessed the worst customer service provided. My friend order a Pho dish that smelled fishy and did not taste good. She was displeased and wanted to send the dish back and order a totally different dish. The manager said my friend would be charged for both dishes, the new dish, as well as the one she could not eat.We had visited the restaurant one week prior and my friend had ordered the same dish, so she knew what to expect of the dish. And fishy was not what she expected. The party of 5 today consisted of 3 active duty members and 2 DA civilians who work on Fort Bragg. This establishment receives a lot of business from the military community. However, We will not eat here again. I ask that my military brothers and sisters rethink visiting this establishment that treats their service member customers in this manner. It seems to be Grilled Gringer’s business practice to hold the customer responsible for paying for a meal, even if the meal is not well prepared, does not taste or smell good, and even if the customer never touches the meal. The proper and expected response should have been to honor the request of the customer by bringing another requested dish and only charging my friend for one item, not both. This service was unacceptable.
PRICEY. My husband and I tried this Vietnamese restaurant since we just moved in the area. The place is nice, wait stuff is friendly, but the food is okay to be that pricey. If you tried authentic Vietnamese food you can tell the food here is not even close. It was an okay experience, but will never go back again.
A special occasion favorite. We love love love the grilled ginger. the prices are a little high but you get really good food so on special occasions we love coming here.if you appreciate good lattes/coffee drinks you have to order the Vietnamese coffee. it takes a long time to brew so you want to order it right away but it is worth the wait.
Heavenly Aroma, Delighted Palate!. Eastern North Carolina has been a food desert until today. We found GRILLED GINGER. A sparkling clean Vietnamese restaurant with AMAZING food. This was our first visit and before the waitress could breath I told her we want the fresh spring rolls and Thai iced tea. The spring rolls were perfect, the rice paper had a nice bit of chew and the rolls were stuffed with wonderfully fresh mint and lettuce, perfectly done rice vermicelli, and the requisite steamed shrimp which I do believe was local caught rather then imported. The peanut dipping sauce had just a TINY touch of chili sauce garnish allowing you the opportunity to swirl it in or leave it alone. I swirled just a little bit in and oh man, was that ever A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!Next up was tradition Pho. I had a hard time choosing between the Pho or the Vermicelli with shredded pork and egg roll. These are two of my favorite dishes. I went for the pho with rare steak because it is a signature dish and the quality of the broth speaks volumes about the talents of the chef. The price is high compared to what we paid back in the S.F. Bay Area, Pho Dac Biet (classic combination with Steak, Brisket, Tendon, Tripe) is $8.95 at Pho Hoa Noodle in Cupertino California and $9.95 at Grilled Ginger for lunch or $11.95 for dinner. However, the condiments, an essential part of the pho experience are much more difficult to source here than in the Bay Area as well. The condiments MUST include pristine fresh mung bean sprouts, a generous amount of cilantro, a large crisp branch of Thai basil, several slices of crisp jalapeno pepper, and a wedge of lime. We have a love for the bean sprouts and while the portion that came with our meal was generous, we asked for more. Our lovely wait person told us it would be an additional charge. No problem, bring them on! When the bill came, we noted that the extra amount we were told to expect had been omitted. Then there was the soup itself. While simple to prepare, the technique and balance of flavors is not easy to master. I’ve been working on it several years now and while I’m not bad, I do not have the talent that the Grilled Ginger chef has. The broth was crystal clear and dotted frugally with a hint of fat from the bones which I believe (given the depth of beefy richness) were roasted before simmering. The flavor of star anise and cinnamon were delicately balanced with ginger and onion so as to subtly announce their presence without assaulting the pallet and rendering it unable to taste the tender slices of beef. Oh this bowl was so amazing. Ah, but there was one thing more and that was the noodles. Chewy, thin, perfectly cooked, and amazing. I adore noodles of all sorts but rice noodles are absolutely my favorite. The combination of the rich beef, fresh herbs, and delicate spices were beyond amazing. You may think that soup on a hot day is unwise, but I would urge you to reconsider. This was one of the most amazing meals I’ve had since coming to the East Coast. Treat yourself and try Grilled Ginger, excellent food, excellent service, and excellent value.
