A Rocky Mount Tradition. Central has been around forever, it seems. The atmosphere is nothing to brag about as the seating is indeed very cramped and the wooden benches uncomfortable, but that is probably to prevent lingering as they can get very busy. The food is incredible! My parents come for the hot dogs and fries and I come for the hot, fresh, melt-in-your mouth cheeseburgers. Prices are fair though the burger are very small and even though I do not have a big appetite, sometimes eating just one is not enough and I have to get 2.

BEST BURGER for 1000s of miles. I will tell you I used to live in nc and loved the food. I now come to town from many 100s of miles away and ensure I get my cheeseburger from this place. The food is simple but EXCELLENT. NO ONE makes a cheeseburger like they do. Yes it is a hole in the wall but the best hole I have ever seen. We are hooked on central cafe.

Hometown institution. Has been here forever and is beloved for it’s location, quirky cramped seating and never changing menu. The place to grrrt your local friends. The food is simple plain red hot dogs and burghers, modestly priced. For those not from the area, it tastes of 50’s style fast food. Very bland and fried.

Best burger in the world! No real atmosphere, same old benches they’ve had since day 1, but every item on the menu is great. Really good chicken salad & hotdogs too. One of those hole in the wall type places that always has the best food.
