I’ve heard so many good things about Mandolin. I have not yet been there for dinner, but decided to take my daughter to Brunch recently. 9/1/13I am a foodie to the core. I was so disappointed in our food. I really wanted it to be good. I ordered the Mandolin skillet. I assumed with this kind of dish the eggs would come over easy and the waiter didn’t ask for my preference. The plate arrived and my eggs were brown around the edges and crispy fried hard, hard, hard. No seasoning was used in the grits or the eggs. How sad.My daughter ordered the Ham Benedict. The poached eggs were a big disappointment. They were poached hard. Who can enjoy a wonderful benedict with hard eggs? Part of the deliciousness is breaking into that egg to find a perfect flow of yolk over your ham and toast.I don’t know who was cooking.. the concept of theses dishes were there, but the chef lost any finesse that would’ve made this a perfect Brunch. Our eggs would have been perfect at Waffle House. The waiter was nice enough, but lacked in quality service. When I asked him if the skillet always came with crispy fried eggs he said yes and I replied well, next time I will know to ask for over easy (if there is a next time) and he said, well, yes I will be happy to do that for you… which is all fine and nice.. but it was his job in the first place to ask how I like my eggs and then come back and ask if all was well after we received our food. Also, I hate giving this negative review. The owner was extremely nice and spoke with us and explained their concept of their home grown food etc. I love organic food.. but it’s of no value if the chef isn’t respecting it. I may come back and try dinner some time.

This Gem is Right around the Corner from Us. I think the biscuit I had was absolutely the best one I have ever had (and that includes the wonderful ones that my ex–mother-in-law made). Read my blog for a complete review of our recent brunch there. Superb!!!!

Mostly excellent. Had a very nice experience at Mandolin on a busy saturday evening recently. The greeting was warm, and service, acceptable. The waiter was timely, and for me, that’s everything. Started off with one of the ‘signature’ drinks, and not being a regular drinker, I had a difficult time choosing one, since the indredients were quite foreign to me. I settled on the Pratt’s something-or-another. It was really out of this world, with the wonderful mixture of basil, cucumber, and ginger. My only issue was that my tumbler was small, and chock full of ice, so there wasn’t much room for the beverage. On to the first course – mussels with coconut milk. Excellent, though a bit on the cool (temp) side. Here the serving size was plentiful. The broth was excellent, particularly when soaked up by the toast. The mussels themselves were large and tender, with only one having some grit that ended up in my mouth. The entree was the chicken and dumplings. Very nice – no complaints. The chicken breast was excellent. Juicy and flavorful. I confess, that my wife’s trigger fish with schard, black eyed peas, and pomegranite was very tasty indeed. All in all, a good experience, and one I’m sure to repeat someday.

I loved it! The oyster appetizer is phenomenal.

Definitely worth a try! Still working out the bugs!. I had taken a group of neighbors last week to try this restaurant. The atmosphere was very inviting (much brighter and open than when the restaurant at that location was EVOO). The food was very good. My only suggestion for improvement is the owner really needs to focus on training of the wait staff. The waiter at our table seemed a little green – and definitely needed more training for what I would expect at a restaurant of this level. Our waiter seemed like this restaurant was his first waiting gig – he was definitely nervous and did not seem to know a lot of detail about the dishes. Not what I expect from a top notch restaurant with top notch prices. If they get their staff up to par with their prices, they will be here a long time.
