Now This Is Fine Dining, And Has Been For Years. How this fine restaurant continues to fly under the Piedmont’s culinary radar is a complete mystery. We have been coming here several times a year for 20 years or so, and have never had a bad experience, and rarely a mis-step of any kind. The small size, single dinner seating, and involvement of the owners and staff makes for an cozy, almost family style meal, with excellent dishes – the closest thing to this is having the tasing menu at Table 16 in Greensboro The menu is based on fresh items availabe and therefore is fluid in nature. I have had excellent seafood, beef, lamb, and chicken, but the duck dishes here have been, far and away, my favorites. This is not a cheap dining experience – with a nice wine, it will come out at $100+ per person, but most folks will come away feeling it was worth every penny, and we always have.

Mike’s review is still pretty much spot on. Dinner at Fabian’s is more than just a meal, it’s an experience. There is still a single seating at 7:30. The price is $60 per person for a five course dinner. It can creep to nearly $100 with alcohol and tip, but it’s still a good deal at that price. The setting is intimate. I don’t think there has been more than 4-7 tables seated anytime I’ve been there. Service finishes up between 9:30 and 10:00. It’s not quite what it was when it was run by Fabian Botta, but it is close. Fabian’s former sous chef and his wife have run the restaurant for the last 3 years. You get to know both well during the course of the dinner. In many ways Eating at Fabian’s is like eating at a friend’s house. Even with other diners, it feels like a private dining experience. There is a single appetizer, soup, and salad. They are followed by a choice of 4-5 mains and 3-4 desserts. The food ranges from very good to perfect (my wife’s pan seared scallops couldn’t have been any better and both of our desserts were sublime). Food is fresh and locally sourced where possible. There is a great selection of wines by the glass. Each one that I tried was excellent and served in generous portion. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants (and it may well be #1). I often recommend it to friends for special occasions.
