My daughter and I came to the place around 7pm(did not have reservations and it was busy) and the greeter told us it would be about 15 minutes.. Not a bad wait…So we waited just a few minutes and he came back frequently to update. We were shown into a room and met our very nice waiter, Jalen. We made our order of the Cuban Bowl and Mofongo plate. .The Cuban bowl consisted of black beans, rice, tostones, avocado, tomato and was superb and spiced perfectly. The Mofongo plate was delicious and served with rice and soup..it is a house specialty. The sweet plantains were perfectly cooked. In other words, it was great. We then ordered the tres leches cake and it was moist and delectable. We met the owner’s son Antonio who told us a bit of history of the place. We then went up to pay and saw a beautiful mural painted years ago by a local artist Armand de Navarre and it was delightful to see this bit of history still there from the Rainbow News Cafe days of years back which is what this venue was in the 80’s.. All in All this was perfect. Debra Reece Simons, & Barclay McGhee Asheville, NC and Winston-Salem
Good good, Not so good service. I have been to this restuarant 3 times but only eaten there once. The first time I went in for dinner on a Friday night with my husband and we were told that they were out of all of the entrees. The second time we went was a Saturday afternoon at lunch and we actually ate there. I got an entree and my husband got a sandwich. Both were delicious. We tried a couple of the pastries, which were also delicious. So we tried again on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We sat down (it’s seat yourself) and waited for 25 minutes and not a single person acknowledged our presence. We were never asked for a drink order or told we will be with you in a minute. We left again, without eating.
Great authentic food!!!. I’ve been to this location multiple times and have never been disappointed. Great authentic home cooked food!!! I would recommend to anyone looking for great authentic cuban style food.
Divine!!!. Where do I begin? As previously stated in other reviews the location is small, and the food is not super quick to make its appearance-but those are my only negative comments. This is a ‘mom and pop’ fledgling restaurant-I am certain that overhead isn’t cheap-and much of the food is prepared to order, so such things take time. THE FOOD IS MORE THAN WORTH THE LOCATION AND THE WAIT!!!!My husband and I were completely blown away! I ordered the special of the day: yellow rice with smoked beef sausage(Chorizo), fried pork chunk and a side salad, and hubby ordered the mofongo with a side of plantains. I wound up ordering a bowl of black beans, because I knew it would be the perfect accompaniment to my meal. Everything is scratch made, and you can tell. We ordered coffee, coconut flan, and a guava cheese pastry for dessert. From start to finish this was the best Caribbean meal I have had in over 20 years!!! I lived in Puerto Rico for two years, and I have searched for authentic food since I left. I hope this restaurant not only survives, but thrives and is able to expand to a larger location!!
They Have Gotten Better. I had not been to Miami’s Cafe in about 4 months and they have made a lot of changes. Their menus has expanded and now they have a lot of Cuban tradiational dishes, as well as their amazing sandwiches. Great pastries. The kitchen is a little faster, but their counter service is still a little slow. They had a hostess/waitress when I visited, but I think she is still trying to figure out the system. However, let me tell you they are very nice. If you have never had Cuban food, you will be in for a pleasant surprise.
I am from Miami and I was SO excited about going to this place!!!! I was raised on Cuban food!!!! I was excited to introduce my husband to Cuban food. He has never had it. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! He had the Cuban sandwich and I had the medianoche!!! The sandwiches were dry and cold!!! No seasoning and the cheese wasn’t even melted!!! I was so upset as my husband said he wasn’t interested in ever going back. Can’t say I am either. The only good thing was the pastelito I took home. The sweet plaintains were burnt. I should have known when we arrived at peak lunchtime (12:30) and the place was empty that was a bad sign!!! Don’t waste your money on this place!! I am going to try and talk him into trying the Cuban restaurant in Charlotte. I have my work cut out for me!!!

I went this thuersday to miamis cafe and eat the famous puerto rican special, it was awesome .I am very happy to have found a place where makes me feel like at home. The pastries were delicious starting with the cocunut ,guava and cheese which I defitnely recomend. oh and before i forget the mango shake yumiii;)
