Not Good!. I almost asked for a refund for the barbecue plate. The barbecue had no sauce and the sauce provided came in a fast food container. It looked like jelly. The barbecue had no taste. The hushpuppies were the worst I have ever had. They tasted like they were old. The onion rings had a funny taste of grease. The beans were good but tasted like can pork and beans. The fries were OK. The Tea was great. I will not be back.
Yech. What’s all the fuss about this sloppy, gooey mess called RO’s slaw? Put it on a bun with barbecue minced to a fine dust, press it all together and that’s what you’ve got… I just don’t call that barbecue. Go somewhere, anywhere else.
Mediocre to poor. I went to see what it was all about, they have curb side service. I asked what to get, bought the big platter. Limp onion rings, limp fries, typical hush puppies, two bread buns, a small cup of the red slaw which was actually like a sauce with a little cabbage with not much flavor. Now to the pork, sliced, very, very bland. Not at all what I’d call BBQ.. Will I return, very doubtful!
I don’t get it. New to the area, everyone said to go here. Not sure why. Pork was overchopped – almost a fine powder. Zero seasoning on meat, slaw/sauce was so-so. Not my cup of tea.
Wet Carolina BBQ, known for it’s BBQ slaw. BBQ slaw is mixed in with pork. Different from standard BBQ fare. Rather like it.
It’s a Gastonia Thing. RO’s has been a landmark in Gaston County for years. The BBQ slaw is AMAZING. It’s like SC mustard based BBQ sauce mixed with NC ketchup based BBQ sauce…truly a Gaston County original. Many folks from outside the county find the pink color and consistency of the slaw hard to swallow. I know it’s not for everyone. The meat itself is nothing special (so don’t order it without the slaw)…but when mixed with the delicious slaw, magic happens. I love it! The slaw is also great on their hamburgers, hotdogs or alone on the bun. Service is typically good here. They can get busy. It is a little pricey, but I keep coming back. I recommend it…but I know it’s a Gastonia thing.
Where is the meat?. The last BBQ sandwich I ordered from Ro’s made me feel like a sucker who lost at a shell game. I thought I was getting a nice, big meaty sandwich that would satisfy my appetite. Instead I got two measly tablespoons of BBQ smeared over half of an enormous toasted bun. I would be ashamed to serve it. They served it with a smile. I put more butter on my toast than they put meat on that bun.07 Jun, 2010Tasty but shamefully stingy. The last BBQ sandwich I ordered from Ro’s made me feel like a sucker who lost at a shell game.
