Atmosphere and service were good, the sushi was average. We had a large crowd and we were graciously accommodated! overall a B+
SUMO. All in all a great place to eat. It’s definitely the best sushi in Goldsboro. I agree with some of the other reviews, the specialty rolls do have a lot of sauce on them. Now I ask for it on the side and I’ve been very happy with my food ever since. Me and my girlfriend usually get an appetizer and the sashimi entree to share. The sushi and Sashimi are excellent, you’d have to drive to Raleigh and pay more to get anything better. We don’t get any of the hibachi stuff (Chicken/steak etc) though my mom says it’s good. I usually go to Fuji Japan if I’m in the mood for that, which I will make a separate review for after this. Other than that the staff is very friendly and the price is decent for what you get. Especially the mixed drinks, wine, sake etc. Check them out, definitely a goldsboro classic. In my top 5.
These people take 56% of your servers tips …..jus thought customers should know food is ok and expensive
Adding to the echo chamber. 1: Most of the rolls have mayonnaise. Seriously? I order from the small selection that doesn’t. The sushi’s pretty good.2: The service is inconsistent, and the waitstaff are very disorganized. Problems include slow service, appetizers being forgotten or coming out after the entrees, one person’s entrees coming out much sooner than the others’ etc. It’s the best sushi in Goldsboro, but it’s difficult to justify the relatively high prices when the service is this bad.edit: Went tonight (August 2013) and the service was outstanding.
The service gets worse everything I go. Every time I go they always miss one or two plates. Sushi is bathed in sauce, including different sauces that are just purely mayonnaise. The actual sushi is good but they change the amount is sauce. Place is getting very dirty.
Went expecting a long wait…. And was pleasantly surprised. I over research restaurants, admittedly, and the reviews here had me convinced we would be waiting for ages, especially when I saw how crowded the parking lot was when we arrived (on Saturday, during the dinner hour). The place was busy, but not packed or crowded, we were seated immediately, and had a prompt, attentive server. A rotation of people brought out our food (edamame was at the table within minutes of when we had our drinks, and my miso soup followed shortly after), but we were looked after generally by a single waiter. The sushi itself was about par with what I’ve had in other places around the country, not that I’m a particular aficionado. I’ve definitely had fancier sushi, but I’ve definitely had slummier sushi as well. For the only game in town, it’s certainly not a sketchy sushi place, and fills its niche well. The next time we’ll probably try out the hibachi side of things, perhaps at another time during the week, to see if the experience differs.
Food is amazing. Service is great! This restaurant is best sushi restaurant in town!
