  Now This Is Great Fried Seafood. It had been a while since we’d visited this great little diner/seafood house, but when fried seafood was what we both craved for lunch, this was our stop. As usual, the seafood was excellent.The Baby Flounder special (3 pieces, a side, slaw, and HPs for $5.99) was perfect, fried nicely, great taste, and more than enough. The Popcorn Shrimp plate ($8.99) was equally good, and again, plenty to go around.There is more here than just great fried seafood. The Chicken & Dumplings (Mon & Thur lunch specials for $6.99) is outstanding, as is the CS Steak (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat, also $6.99). The sandwiches here are not their strong suit, and the FFs are to be avoided, but almost everything else is super.Great food, excellent service, reasonable prices – you gotta love this place.01 Aug, 2014Great Breakfast, Great Seafood, Skip The Sandwiches. We all have these restaurants – places we pass by over and over again, sometimes for years. We don’t stop because the timing isn’t right, the particular small strip center doesn’t appeal, or there’s just not anything good we’ve heard about the place. Bayside Seafood has been one of those places for me – but, thankfully, no more!Our lunch recently was eye-opening. I was bored with our usual suspects and wanted to try something different, so I thought we’ve finally give this little restaurant a shot. They are located in a small strip center on E. Wendover, just before the GTCC campus. The interior is larger than you would expect, bright, and clean. There are booths and tables – I’d get a table, the booths are rather cramped.We seated ourselves (the sign suggested we do so), and we were promptly approached for our drink orders, which were just as promptly filled. We decided on an Alaskan Whitefish & Popcorn Shrimp Combo (with FF, Slaw, & HPs), and Country Style Steak with Mashed Potatoes (with gravy, of course), Fried Okra, and dinner rolls.Both the Whitefish and the Popcorn Shrimp were outstanding – hand battered with a combination of flour and white cornmeal, and fried to perfection, and in a generous amount for a lunch plate ($7). Each was full of flavor, without the slightest touch of greasiness – especially rare with Popcorn Shrimp. Both these items are the best I’ve had inside the city limits of Greensboro in years, and rivals my usual favorite, Walkertown Seafood Shack.The Country Style Steak also was super – nice portion, great flavor and texture, smothered in rich, brown gravy. The Mashed Potatoes were real, smothered in the same nice gravy, and the Fried Okra is right there with the best restaurant version in the Triad – the entire Triad.The FF were just so/so, the Slaw was a little bland, but some salt helped. The Hush Puppies are the ringed shaped ones, and were perfect for my tastes – rich cornmeal flavor, with very little sweetness, the dinner rolls were not particularly memorable. Total bill with 2 drinks, with tax, was $20.74. Service was friendly (downright talkative) and attentive.I cannot believe I’ve missed so many great meals by passing this little place by. I intend to play some serious catch up from now on.

  The fish is simply made but made perfectly, large portions for the low prices and good service.
