Better Things Here Than The ‘Cue. Bernie’s has been in this location on E. Bessemer Avenue for as long as I can remember. Like Frosty’s and O’Henry’s in Greensboro, there is barbecue in the name, but they don’t cook their own, and their other food items are a better choice – daily special meat & 2, and sandwiches.Like so many mom & pop operations, this place is worn looking inside and out, more about food and service than ambiance. The meat & 2 items contain the usual suspects – Country Style Steak, Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, etc – and generally are good, if not spectacular. The hot dog is good, and could be very good if the flavor of the chili was kicked up a notch or two – I’ve found that a good dose of salt and Texas Pete works wonders here. The burger is a typical, greasy diner burger, again good, but not great. Don’t care for the fries here, no real flavor, mushy consistence.Good friendly folks here, waitresses seem to know most the customers. The parking lot is small, and parking can be a bit of a problem at peak, but a side street is available.
