The Return Of A Nice Chili Dog. Keep checking in here, somewhat out of habit, somewhat out of hope – hope that the burger and the hot dog here will somehow be as good as they once were – and that was as good as they was in the city at that time.Today was a most pleasant surprise. A friend and I dropped in a little after 11:30, and the small parking lot was full, and inside there was only one empty table – as busy as I’ve seen this place in a long time, and it wasn’t noon yet. The place seemed a little brighter, more alive – there was even a new little TV were the old worn one had sat for years. The Hot Dog I ordered was excellent – the chili, a rich brown color, was the best tasting I’ve had here in ages. The wiener was solid, the onions fresh, and the bun nicely toasted. This is the kind of hot dog I used to order here by the bag full. The Cheeseburger (the smaller one, not the big WhatABurger) was also very, very good. The smaller burger here is the better one, in my opinion, because it does have too much bread, which the larger roll brings. Can’t wait to try them again – sure am hoping goodness is back to stay.01 Oct, 2011Faded Rose. Sadly, this is a true fallen angel. This was one of the best hole-in-the-wall burger joints in Greensboro for years, serving a large What-A-Burger and a fine meaty, chili dog. It kinda went down hill about 4 or 5 years ago, some change in the people involved, I think. I revisited it recently, and was sad to see little of the old zip was there. The chili dog was a little better than my last visit, but the onions of the dog were RED onions. You don’t put RED onions on a hot dog, anymore than you put ketchup on one. The burger still needs work to even come close to what it once was – mine was dry, over-cooked, and the toasted bun was somewhat leathery, not up to what this place use to produce. The fries remain something to pass on, the rectangular, ridged kind that holds no salt or flavor, and better served as building material.

While the decor leaves a little to be desired there is nothing better than a what-a-burger all the way…chili slaw onions mustard mayo and ketchup! Ms Frances, Ricky and Kathy always do you right! And the tea is great! Even better now that it’s no smoking!
