Quick & Inexpensive Asian Choices. This place, which opened in late 2013, is located in the spot that housed King House Restaurant for a number of years. They’re open 7 days a week, offer some Japanese (Hibachi, Tempura), Thai (Pad Thai & some curries), Chinese (Egg Roll, Kung Po Chicken, Pepper Steak, Chow Mei Fun, Szechuan Beef, etc), and even deliver to the 27410 zip code, with a $12 minimum. They have fixed the place up nicely, and have 12 tables or so for seating. This is basically a fast food setup – place your order, pay, get your drink, and grab a seat. The time here will run slower than typical fast food – but, still pretty quick. They offer daily lunch specials at good prices – today was Hibachi Chicken for $3.99, for a nice sized serving. The food here is good, not great, and the dishes tend to contain a great deal of vegetables. The Egg Roll ($1.25) was better than average. The Fried Rice is the typical Japanese version, fairly wet, with bits of corn, peas, carrot, etc – and this is the fried rice in the Chinese dishes, as well. The Hibachi Chicken lunch special was a very nice serving, especially considering the price. The chicken was tender, moist, not overcooked, at all, and there was plenty of veggies and rice. The Kung Po Chicken was not even close to the classic version – it contained mostly vegetables (green & red peppers, zucchini, onion, carrot, & broccoli) with a nice amount of peanuts, and a few red chilies. All in all, not a bad dish, but not really Kung Po Chicken – it is served with choice of rice, and egg or spring roll – $5.50 for lunch portion. The star, for me, was a daily special soup – Kimchi Seafood Soup ($2.50). This was a excellent portion, containing a nice amount of shrimp & tofu, as well as kimchi. The broth was very nice and rather spicy, as you would expect with kimchi. This is not a listed menu item, but I hope it will be – this is as good as any I’ve tasted, any where.
