I read all of the reviews for Golden Wok describing how crowded this place was, but I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. There was a line of about 7 people in front of us for dinner, and about 60% of the tables in the restaurant were full. Prior to this, I don’t remember ever going to a fast food Chinese restaurant at dinner time and seeing more than one booth occupied. As others have said, describing the interior as no frills is being generous, but at least they have on-site dining. As far as the food goes, everything was good, but not mind-blowing. The egg roll was not as greasy as they usually are, but you still have to use the same nasty spicy mustard in a pouch that you get at every fast food Chinese place. The General Tso’s chicken had a very good sauce, but the batter was harder than I like it to be. The chicken itself was pretty decent quality for this type of place. This is one of the best counter service Chinese places I have been to, but it is still not the equal of China Palace in Kernersville or Sampan in Winston-Salem.
I consider Golden Wok the best Chinese in the area in comparison to New England/New York style. Great portions and value. Would love to see a bit more effort into the crab Rangoon but not bad. Lo mein noodles were a bit spongy. All other items in the Pu Pu platter were on point.
