Don’t Know What Happened, But It Is Not Good!. What we had for lunch today was simply bad food – poorly seasoned, overcooked, greasy, and lacking freshness. This was the second time we’ve eaten here in the last 10 days, and while the first time wasn’t dreadful, it certainly wasn’t comparable with other cafeterias in the area – any cafeteria in the area. This time it was dreadful! The Large Hamburger Steak was small, overcooked, tough, and tasteless. The Fried Chicken (1/4) was totally under-seasoned and extremely greasy. The 2 Garden Salads were anything but fresh, looking or tasting. The lettuce was limp, and brown around the edges, and the cucumber was incredibly bitter, like nothing I’ve encountered before with that vegetable. The Green Beans were under-seasoned, bland. We had high hopes for the reincarnation of this locally owned, northeast side cafeteria, but the last two meals are just that – the last two meals we’ll eat there.09 Oct, 2014Solid Cafeteria – Good & Varied Choices. We kind of like a good, solid cafeteria for a quick, inexpensive lunch – you can pick from a variety of items that you can actually see in front of you, and the pricing is always reasonable. This cafeteria just opened in the last couple of weeks in the location that once housed H & F Cafeteria, and some of the same folks are involved in this venture. We tried the Whiting with Slaw, Pintos, and a Toss Salad ($7.46) and County Style Steak with Cabbage & Fried Okra ($7.56). The Whiting was well sized & nicely cooked, with a few small bones scattered around. The Slaw was nice, the salad excellent (fresh and crisp, nice Blue Cheese Dressing), while the Pintos were rather thin, watery, without much flavor. The CS Steak was very nice, though a touch on the smallish side, with the Gravy a little different in that it has a bit of onion in it. The Fried Okra was excellent, and the Cabbage also. They offer basically the same variety as the other local cafeterias, and from prior experience, it is all pretty good. The service is very good – friendly & efficient. Glad these folks are open, this side of town can use some additional choices, especially for lunch.
