Told me to pull my shorts down……….. The doormen are absolutely horrible. I came up to the door wearing shorts and they told me to pull them down or else I wasn’t allowed in. WHAT ARE YOU, my father??? This is a bar I should be allowed to wear shorts if I want to. Absolutely absurd.
Rude, Untruthful Service. I was able to get in Jakes under 21 a year ago, yet I go here tonight & they told the people I was with they couldn’t get in because they’re under 21. For one, three of the five people who went was 21 and the other two were 20! Don’t change the rules because you don’t like the people who are going. All of us were going to buy food, drinks, & play games so Jakes lost all of that service. The guy at the door was so rude and disrespectful when we were not drunk or acting unruly. The rules have never been like this and if the group was made of sorority girls there would have been no problems. I will never go back to this place. They don’t deserve anyone’s business if they are going to treat people so rude.25 Feb, 2015Rude, Untruthful Service. I came here for a 21st birthday at 12 o’clock, and only being 20 I was still able to get in at this time. Yet, when I came in at 1130pm they wouldn’t let my friend in even though only two people were under 21 and the rest of the group were 21. The guy at the door was so rude and disrespectful even though we all were going to buy food, drinks, & games. This place is a joke. It has double standards and really if any of the workers are rude then the whole place is considered rude. I will never go here again. Being 21, this is the worst bar ever.

Excellent Pub Food, Great Beer Selection. Wow, this place rocks – literally and figuratively. I had pretty much dismissed the place until my son mentioned it, and then I read some reviews and saw the some pictures, and I decide I needed to check this place out. The only thing better than be able to find good food spots is to have smart folks point you in the right direction. This is definitely a sports bar/billiard hall/beer destination. The billiard tables are numerous, only slightly more numerous than the big screen TVs, and the outside seating is more numerous than either. The music is rock mostly, and loud, but it fits the character of the place, and there was even a little Buddy Guy.There is a well sized bar with a good view of 5 or 6 TVs, more TVs along each wall. Their draft beer selections number almost 70, and include a great number of craft beers, as well as Stella Artois, both Dos Equis Larger & Amber, Pacifico, Victory, Guinness, and even the foo-foo Blue Moon Belgian White. All of this is well and good, but as Alton Brown would say, I just came for the food. And that was such a good thing. This place elevates pub food, and that is a good thing. We choose a seat at one of the small, elevated table facing the bar area. John, from behind the bar, waited on us, and we lucked out – cool dude, nice suggested choices. We ordered a Cheeseburger ($7.50 with a side) with House Made Chips, the Philly Cheese Steak (Friday Special for $5.95) with Onion Rings for 75 cents more, and a Hot Dog ($2.75).The Cheeseburger was outstanding – very much on par with those at Big Burger Spot & Hops as to taste, a bit smaller. The Homemade Chips were also excellent, as was the Ranch Dressing – the portion was nice, as well. The Hot Dog was very good, but short of great – still I’d order it again. The Onion Rings were good too, especially with the house Remoulade Sauce, packs a little heat, great stuff. The Philly Cheese Steak was the best version I’ve had anywhere in North Carolina. It is absolutely loaded with tender, tasty shaved beef – plenty of cheese, onion, and peppers on a very nice roll. The beef is the key here, and they make it so by not cooking it to death. I’d come here for the Cheese Steak alone, but obviously there is so much more. Like a nice Flounder Sandwich, and $1.50 Tacos, and Sunday Brunch, and even more
Jake’s is the place for great bar food, great beer and liquor, trivia, billiards or just hanging out. The food is way above average pub grub and more with lots of options. The service is friendly and prompt. The prices are very reasonable. The best and most affordable brunch around on the weekends. $1.50 hot dogs on Monday are available with all kinds of toppings. $1.50 tacos on Tuesday are always delicious with a new specialty taco each week. Jake’s attracts a diverse crowd, especially late night. Roadhouse, it isn’t. But if I owned restaurants on Walker I’d be jealous, too.
Road House. This place reminded me of the movie Roadhouse. If your out for trouble this is the place for you.
