Maxie B’s is good, but probably not as good as the long line in the place would suggest. We went there on a weekday night after dinner, and there were 10 people in line ahead of us. I give them major points for sheer variety. I have never been to a dessert shop with so many different choices, many of which I have never seen anywhere before (7 up cake looked interesting, but I didn’t see it until after my order came out!). The food we had was a mixed bag, however. The chocolate cake was very good – it was moist, but would have benefitted from some type of topping or garnish. The pink lemonade cupcake, on the other hand, had frosting which was way too hard. I prefer the pink lemonade squares at Dewey’s hands down. Prices were a bit high for what you get, but not off base for this type of place.

Both times I have been here I’ve left disappointed. While the cakes are pretty and the buttercream icing is classic, the cake itself is super dry and tastes as though it was left over from the day before. For a place that specializes in cake I expected better. Icing can only get you so far.
