Best Italian in North Carolina. I had the pleasure of trying out Osteria for the first time this evening, and I have to say, it was phenomenal. The service is impeccable, the decor is lovely, and the food is beyond fantastic. It’s the first time since I moved south that I’ve had gnocchi so good, although I’m guessing the fact that their pasta is homemade is probably key to it’s perfection. The barrata appetizer off their specials menu was outstanding: the warm, sweet tomatoes countered the cool cheeses beautifully. The panna cotta was smooth, light, and refreshing: a delicate sweet dessert that served as the perfect ending note. The veal and parmesan meatballs and the ravioli were also very well received by my companions. Osteria Italian Restaurant has, in a single evening, become my favorite restaurant in town. It is definitely worth a try if you have to yet to do so!

Plenty of Potential. Probably going to need to try this relatively new place (open 7 months) a time or two more to really get a fix on it. There is much to like here, but still some things to sort out. This is small place; decor is modern, functional with few soft edges. The tables are small, making the placement of items a bit of a cluster. The layout is such that only a few customers can make it noisy, quickly. This is not a traditional, red sauce Italian restaurant. The Lasagna for example, while it has a Bolognese sauce, it is more cream based than the traditional version, with the cheese replaced with bchamel sauce, a classic French sauce. Not bad, just different, and personally I prefer the classic sauce. The rolls here are excellent, full of flavor, with a nice hard crust – these were brought out shortly after we were seated. The Crepes with ricotta, spinach, and artichoke in a red pepper sauce were tasty, but the crepes are rather thick, and lack a certain lightness. The 5 rib Rack of Lamb was simply outstanding, as flavorful as any I’ve tasted in quite a while. It was cooked perfectly to medium rare, with a nice salty crust on the outside. The Center Cut Rib Eye was another matter, however. This is a cut that is more like a strip, with no marbling, and a bit grainy in texture. The sweet reduction that accompanied the steak didn’t add to the taste at all – would not order this dish again. The side dish of green beans and Brussels sprouts was very nice, especially the sprouts. They take out the core (usually the bitter part) and sauted the leaves, and the result is a nice fresh taste. The Gelato ( 2 scoops) was also out of sight, as was the dessert wine we ordered, Moscato Vajra, Piedmont Region, 2012 – loaded with the smell and taste of pineapple. The service was excellent on what turned out to be a very light traffic night. Reno, our server, was attentive, knows the menu thoroughly, and made a great wine recommendation at a reasonable price level. The chef was visible, but chose not to be particularly engaging. The overall expense level was more than reasonable for the fare, including a bottle of wine, a glass of excellent dessert wine, and dessert – $120 for two people. In summary, we found some things we liked, some others not so much. We’ll most likely visit again; try some different things, and maybe some we tried this time. It will be interesting to follow this place’s development.

Best Italian In Greensboro. Many people don’t know about this place yet, but its the best authentic Italian place in town. Pasta is made fresh on premises. Good spot for a date of business lunch.

Owners Wife…RUDE. Saturday Night… Walked in, it was empty, only two couples. The greeter asked us if we had a reservation, I said no and asked if we needed one and she said it helps and predeceased to seat us. Right after we were seated the owners wife came storming out of the kitchen headed too our table. Half way there she started telling us that this table was reserved. I looked around at the empty room and just listened. She went on to say… I don’t know why you were given this table because it is reserved and you can not sit here…. and that maybe you want to sit at the bar, or maybe outside. She yelled at us like we just walked in at sat ourselves….. She was so load and rude that the other 2 couples stopped there conversations, turned there heads to watch this lady treat us like we were street people. I think I should explain we are a normal looking mid age couple….we were not wearing camouflage, we were dressed as good or better then the other two couples in this empty dinning room…we ended up sitting outside…we had a great waitress that apologized for her bosses behavior. I have been around this country and other countries, and I have to say this lady was by far the rudest person we have came across in any restaurant……. So on to the food. I am Italian and I have to say my wife’s pasta dish, well to say the least it tasted like Chef Boyardee….terrible…. and my steak and veggies were so salty that I could just about eat it….also what happen to us happen to a single lady that walked in 15 mins after us. When we left the dinning room had a total of 10 people in it. So I have to ask WHY?
