I have had two extremely bad experiences at this establishment. The most recent one happened a couple days ago when my wife and I along with three friends went out for some drinks and decided to order 20 Dry Rub wings. When the wings arrived they looked extremely burnt, but each of us decided to try them. Well, we tried them and collectively decided that they were too burnt and barely edible. When we told the bartender that the wings were burnt, her response was Its the Dry Rub, as if Dry Rub wings should be burnt. Even after showing her extremely charred pieces she still repeated Its the Dry Rub. At this point you would think she would graciously apologize, but instead she angrily took the wings to the kitchen and summoned the manager. The manager then told us that he was unable to remove the wings from our check because only 10 wings were untouched. I then had to mention that we are a party of five, so if we each grabbed a few to try, then obviously its plausible that only ten would remain untouched. Furthermore, I had to point out that there were partially eaten wings on our saucers. He eventually removed it from our check, but why in the world did we have to plead our case? I suppose the customer is no longer always right. To add insult to injury, the bartender walked by us and mumbled something, and then took her sweet time to bring us our check. After all this I probably shouldnt have left a tip, but I decided to be the bigger person. In the future I will spend my money elsewhere. I wish I could have left a zero star rating, which is still more than they deserve.
Great Pub Food, Attractive Setup. Greensboro has really been adding casual dining restarants at a nice clip over the last several years, and this one is one of the best I’ve experienced. It’s first and foremost a sports bar, with 15+ large screen TVs, a well-sized bar, plenty of tall tables perfect for viewing the action, as well as a number of comfortable booths. Everything is bright and shiny, clean, airy, and well lit, a very attractive setup. The TVs are all on, and muted – the music is not, and I imagine the noisy level will be quite high at peak times in the evenings and weekends. The menu is loaded with pub food items – appetizers like wings (about 8 or so sauces), nachos, fried pickles, cheese fries, chicken tenders, and more. There are 5 or 6 salads with a variety of protein choices, cheese, and dressings, as well as a number of Burger choices, served on a toasted brioche bun with fresh hand cut fries – and these are very nice burgers, and outstanding friesAnd the Onions Rings are absolutely perfect – thinly slice, well battered, nicely seasoned, and fried just right, without a hint of greasiness. The Ranch Dressing is thick and loaded with flavor. They offer a number of specialty sandwiches, including a Fried Shrimp Po Boy that is awesome – filled, really filled with large, fresh shrimp, perfectly fried. The Pulled Pork Po Boy is also excellent – loaded with tender pork (they cook the pork butts in house for 4 to 5 hours), a very nice version of Cole Slaw, and a slightly sweet, spicy BBQ sauce, and a great crusty hoagie roll they have shipped in from New York – it makes these sandwiches.Plates and combos are available, including Baby Back Ribs, Shrimp, Flounder, Chicken Tenders, and Grilled Chicken, and a few items for the kiddie’s – but make no mistake the is an adult kind of hangout place, and for me, especially so at lunch – for the younger crowd it will be more an evening thing, with plenty of noise and a large selection of beers. The tavern is locally owned by Steve Roderman (get it, Rody’s Tavern) who has been in the restaurant business most of his adult life, lastly with Battleground Restaurant Operations (Tripp’s, KickBack Jack’s, etc). He knows this type of restaurant, and he knows the Greensboro food scene, and it shows. This is an attractive choice (think KickBack Jack’s royalty cousin), with a variety of food choices, staffed by friendly folks who know the menu, and who provide great service – Brandi at lunch today was exceptional, Steve was there – visible, engaging, and active. Nice place, first visit – we’ll be back.
