How does cheap taste to you?. Yum Yum’s does two things: hot dogs and ice cream. Simply, their hot dogs are really bland and disconcertingly dyed bright red. The chili on my dog was only a slight improvement to it, and thankfully the slaw I got was not watery but crunchy. I tried their mint chocolate chip ice cream and it was acceptable. It tasted and looked similar to Edy’s, though I’ve been led to believe their ice cream is made in house. I didn’t have high hopes for Yum Yum’s and I got pretty much what I expected. If you’re looking for really cheap, simple eats, this might be a good place for you to try. But I’d suggest you keep your expectations low.
Sweet Tooth Time Machine. This cash only little shop is a great place for an un-doctored ice cream cone and is the complete opposite of places like Cold Stone or those sterile frozen yogurt places that seem to be everywhere around the country. I didnt try the hot dogs, but plenty of kids and blue collar guys seemed to be enjoying them. – – $2.25 for a big mound/scoop of ice cream with a dozen different flavor options, Yum Yums takes you back to simpler times. I really liked the black cherry, as it reminded me a bit of Graeters (from Cincinnati), but clearly it is a distinct product. Red raspberry was also a nice treat on a hot day, so Ill certainly have to return at some point to try other flavors. – – This isnt a place with any level of pretentiousness and is a great spot for Sun Drop in a glass bottle or a straightforward scoop. An obvious stop for dessert when in the Piedmont Triad.
Yum!. I’ve been coming here since I was 5 years old. Im currently 21 and still enjoying the best hotdogs in town. This place serves good classic hotdogs with a good variety of toppings along with ice creams and sodas. This is without a doubt a classic gem of Greensboro restaurants. I would recommend Yum Yums to anyone who enjoys the classic hot dogs.
Very good value. The hot dogs are quite inexspensive but are very delicious . The ice cream is homemade and very smooth. The only downfall is that they only take cash.
I love these hotdogs! I get everything on it and their glass bottle of coke is great to top it off. But if you one that don’t go for pink hotdogs just eat the ice cream. I give it a 4 1/2 out of 5.
Red Hot Dogs. I know Yum Yums is a landmark and Greensboro icon, but the hot dogs are just gross. The ice cream is good, and I love being right there on campus of UNCG so you can walk around with your cone. But the hot dogs are just gross.
Yum Yum Greensboro, NC. I have been a patron of Yum Yum as far back as the 60’s when it was down the street up from Higgins Bicycle shop. If you remember that, then you remember when Yum Yum or West End as I called it, actually served a decent hot dog, not the skinny red dyed piece of crap it is now. The founding fathers would be ashamed of the quality. I remember the Ball Park all Beef sign that was proudly displayed in the window. I don’t want to know where the present dogs come from, much less what is in them. How about the slaw! The original didn’t have relish in it, what’s up with that. Well, at least the ice cream seems to taste about the same and is the one thing that keeps me coming back. My suggestion would be to charge an extra 50 cents and serve a quality dog, or maybe it’s too late and people just don’t care anymore. That being said, the ice cream is still pretty darn good.
