What Happened To The Soup?. Lunch here recently was a bit of a mixed bag – well, maybe not an even mixed. The Chicken & Orzo Soup (a quart for $7.99) was tasty, but thin on chicken and orzo. There was some very tasty chicken, plenty of carrots, but the soup was very lite on the orzo, which is a big part of the taste of this soup, at least for me. In fact, there was much more broth than anything else – really hit home how much less after looking at previous pictures of the soup. Don’t know if this is a permanent thing, sure hope not.The Chicken Salad Platter ($8.99) was a collection of salad items that were a bit off the beaten path – perhaps more healthy, but that loses some import when you really don’t like them enough to eat them. The Chicken Salad was tasty, but was minced to the point that there was no real texture to the salad. The Slaw was maybe the strangest of all the items. The cabbage was cut into strips, feta cheese and scallion were added, along with a very light vinaigrette, very lightly applied – wasn’t quite slaw, definitely wasn’t a salad. The Potato Salad was basically chopped up baby Red Potatoes, and that’s about it – no mayo, no flavor, no mas. The Pasta Salad also was rather dry, though not entirely without taste. Wouldn’t reorder any of these salad items. I want to be healthy, like everyone else, but a slightly longer lifetime gained by eating in this manner may not be the trade off I’m looking for. Of course, I’ll be back for the soup – well, at least one more try.28 Jul, 2014Great Soups. I try to go to a health conscience restaurant once a year or so just to see how the other side lives, and to check out whether anything has changed I’d be interested in. I’ve made few life style changes as a result of these visits, but Zoe’s offers some nice items, and if they’re healthy, so much the better. This is an order at the front, pay, get your drink cup, grab a number, and find a seat kind of place. They offer outside seating, and on a day like today, this was a very nice option. The time to get your food is quick, but will vary with pressure at peak times, I would guess. You get to use real silverware here, though the little brown napkins are of limited help.We each tried a cup of soup and 1/2 sandwich combo, and both were quite nice. The Tomato Bisque is rather thick, loaded with flavor, and quite rich. The Chicken & Orzo is loaded with tasty chicken, crunchy slices of carrot and celery, and a relatively small amount of orzo. This is one of the very best soups I’ve eaten in a restaurant, ever. The broth is very flavorful, as good as it gets. I would come back here just for this soup, even if I got no bread with it. These two soups are all the soups offered. The Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Turkey Sandwich were pretty good, but could have used some more mayo, and a liberal dose of salt & pepper helped. Both were on 7 grain bread, and I was actually surprised how tasty this was. This is not a cheap place – our two combos, and 2 diet drinks ($2 each), were over $18 – but what you get seems worth it. We’ll be back, and it probably wont take a year for our next visit.
Go to Mythos on Battleground instead.. The food is just weak. Pita bread here is like a lenders bagel, technically pita but it is awful. Salad was poor, chicken was dry cubes that tasted as if they had been made the day before. Hummus was fair but without real pita bread for scooping, it wasn’t worth it. We won’t go back.
Good Quick Tasty Food. One of my favorite places for a quick last minute dinner. I’m honestly not sure why the like % is so low as I have never had anything that I did not like. The steak wraps are fantastic, as is the flat bread, salad, braised white beans, and pasta salad. Plus, they offer a significant amount of side dishes without mayo – which is a huge plus for me. I also like that they package their housemade salad dressing, hummus etc for sale at reasonable prices (especially the dressing @ 4 or so dollars). The service is OK, hit or miss, but usually hit in my experiences but I definitely have not any experiences worth complaining about.
Fresh Food. Great, Fresh, Delicious Food. Always yummy steak wraps, spinach wraps, pasta salad and rosemary white beans, just to name a few!
YUMMY!. Zoe’s has a nice atmosphere, very friendly counter staff who will remember you (and even what you usually order if you’re a creature of habit like me), and really good food. Their hummus is super and their Greek salad with chicken is terrific- with surprise addition of delicious grilled onions and an especially good greek dressing, which they also sell by the bottle at the counter. Their outside eating area is very lovely in the warmer months. ( Tip- I often get the side Greek salad and add chicken at lunch time. It’s plenty for me and I can eat lunch for under $6.)
Not what I expected. I paid $6.99 for a turkey pita only to find lunch meat was used as the turkey in the pita & there wasn’t much flavor. I was really expecting a thicker pita too. Oh well, at least the atmosphere was nice.
Great Place. This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Greensboro. The menu has lots of options, including healthy choices, and the food always tastes fresh. I also like that they have outdoor seating.
