Junk Mex for College Kids. I went here with great expectations after hearing and reading some good things about the place. I now know all the hype is made by local college kids with no real food experiences; focusing only on the daily cheap specials (.99 taco Tuesday, .99 enchilada Wed, ect.) and the college friends that work there.Service: Friendly, yet acted nervous (deceptive) about the handwritten bill. Also tax was oddly not added. The Good: 1) The fresh, light and crispy taco shells and freshly shredded cheese was good 2) The price was great3) Chips were nice, light and crunchyThe Bad:1) The beef was very bland and pasty2) Half of my tacos were full of meat while the other half were void of meat and toppings3) I ordered chicken tacos also and did not get them (instead got all beef tacos)4) Salsa was boring and tastelessWould I return? Possibly, but I would not get anything with the bland, mush beef in it. Every joint deserves a second chance. All in All this joint is just that… a quick junk Mex joint aimed at college kids.
Love it!! Cleanliness along with great food and service. We will definitely be returning!! Only downfall, no alcohol. I love a good margarita w/my meal.
Great Mexican Food!. I thin we have tried every Mexican restaurant in Greenville over the many years we’ve lived here. Some were OK others really bad. I have to say that out of all the ones that we have gone to La Ribera has the freshest tasting food for very reasonable prices. To be fair they did have some service issues when they first opened but have straightened them out now. Their fajitas are excellent and cooked just right. Some places over cook fajistas and the meat gets dry and the onions and peppers etc. are either burned or wilted. Not so at La Ribera! The meat is cooked perfectly and the peppers and onions are cooked but still have a crispness to them which allows for great flavor! If you are really hungry, try their California Burrito it is very tasty and could feed two people easily! They do not have alcohol but that does not bother me as I do not drink. I do believe that you can bring your own if you are so inclined. Great decor, attantive staff, great food and reasonably priced! My wife and I enjoy it and I think you will too!
Not My Favorite….. Really going to try hard not to complain and give an honest review. Location is nice it felt clean, lots of space and overall good vibes. We went at around 7:45p on Weds. night. There was maybe 5-6 parties dining already. Orders and drinks were taken fast and up until the drinks were brought the service was fine. I received my meal, Tacos de Pollo Asada ($9.50!!! I KNOW, but anyways) well before anyone else and I finished most of my meal by the time my wife’s meal came out. She also got 3 steak tacos. Tacos were below average just nothing special really I could take it or leave it but in the end certainly ordered something cheaper and save money on the deal. I have a feeling the bottleneck is somewhere in the kitchen or expediting. I would like to say I may return if the party or someone else is deciding or paying but considering the cost and experience I will not be making an effort to eat at La Ribera again. As a comparison Mi Cabana (another dining option a block in the opposite direction) the same dish I order (Tacos de Pollo Asada/$7.50) is a much more reasonable deal great service and while still not the BEST tacos in town, I feel the experience is quite enjoyable and return quite often.Apologize for no pictures.
The food is great but the service sucks everytime I get take out the either completely screw up the order so I have to drive back or they don’t give chips or salsa which just is awful so overall it’s just ok when you factor in everything.
They don’t serve alcohol!
I love this place. The food at La Ribera is a refreshing departure from the cookie-cutter Tex-Mex establishments that seem to dominate this region. There is a wide variety of menu options that should satisfy every taste. Whether you like your food creamy, spicy, cheesy, tangy, etc., there are so many different options to choose from. A fantastic restaurant that should be a fixture in Greenville for many years to come.17 Jun, 2012Great Mexican Restaurant. The food is amazing. The atmosphere and service is first-class. La Ribera has become my new favorite restaurant in Greenville!
