Waste of time and money. Our anniversary, so we went to Biltmore and spent the day touring the gardens. Thought I was planning a romantic meal with my husband. Went here because of the recommendations I read about the food. They are obviously paying someone to write good reviews. Bread was stale and tough. Schnitzel dry and tasteless. Chicken hunter style was terrible. Coke was flat. Best thing about the meal was the spread they brought to put on the old tough bread. Left hungry!! I’ve never had German food before but in any country this would be terrible. Definitely not returning. No wonder there were only three tables in the place at dinner time

Group meeting here went well, though a bit on the pricey side for our group. We had a group of about 20 for dinner on a Saturday night at the Black Forest. We were seated in a private rooms and given a choice of a half dozen dishes — a German sampler, a schnitzel plate, an Italian plate, seafood and a couple of others. Overall, the group dinner went well, with good, timely and friendly service.I personally would have preferred to order from a menu, given that we weren’t a large group, but it worked out okay. As it was, most of us weren’t told prices of the meals, and they varied a good deal, from about $15 to more than $25 plus tax, tip, drinks and dessert. I thought I was getting veal schnitzel but it was pork — but very good and a huge serving with four German sides. We (a couple) paid about $100 for a total of two cocktails (a Jack on the rocks for a reasonable $7.50, and an unusual old-fashioned ($11.50), one beer, one glass of wine, two entree plates and one dessert, including tax and pre-figured tip, perhaps on the pricey side for our group.I’ve only eaten here once or twice before, about 15 years ago, and it doesn’t seem as if the decor or main menu items have changed much in that time, except possibly there are more Italian and seafood dishes. The portions are still huge. The steps and entrance don’t seem to have been refurbished in years. The Black Forest does seem to attract a crowd of regulars, and there was a sign out front advertising for staff for a new location in Hendersonville. If you order with care from the regular menu, prices are pretty reasonable for the quantity of food. Service is good, and the atmosphere, while far from elegant, is fine for a mid-level restaurant.I’m not a German food fan, but I love good vienerschnitzel, so I might come back for that.

Great Food.. I love this place. There chicken is always amazing. Price is a little high but the service, decor, and quality of the ingredients make up for that. Also a great wine menu. All around one of the best Geman/Italian restaurants in Asheville area. Should mention the lunch prices are amazing.

Very Sad. My husband and I moved to the Asheville area two years ago and he has been dying to try this place. I finally took him and it was a big disappointment. First off the place just looked old and tired. We were the youngest people in the restaurant by about 25 years (easy). It was sad because the bread they brought to the table was the delicious and the best part of the meal. There was no kids menu but the server told me some of the things that they could make for him so we got him cheese ravioli and a small cup of milk. They brought out 4 frozen and reheated ravioli and a small like 4 oz of milk. They charged me $6 for his 4 ravioli and $3 for his milk. That is crazy! With all the great places in Asheville to eat I would never waste my money on this place again. It was expensive, service a little pushy (asked us 6 or more times if we wanted dessert) and the place dingy.

Satisfying experience. Hardy meal selections with noticeable freshness in many of the ingredients present. There is a lot of value for what you pay for. The sauces and seasoning of the dishes make them distinctive selections. Service is very good. You wont be hungry after you leave.

Bad. REALLY bad.. Poor service from a catty waiter, overpriced unauthentic atmosphere, unauthentic cuisine, and way overpriced. Runny potato salad, flavorless schnitzel, NOT real German. No bread while you wait and salad brought with meal, not before. Won’t go here again! Not sure what everybody else was raving about. It was terrible. Could have spent my money elsewhere for a better meal and more interesting location.

Pleasent Surprise. I had been a little hestitant to eat here as I noticed the dollar signs on the review tab. I finally decided to splurge a bit and go here. I am glad that I did and was surprised by the cost. I do not think that it was all that much higher than alot of other non chain places.I have had German food before at a couple other places and would rank this one right up there with those. I had Veal and sauge along with a potatoe cake and the red cabbage. It was on special that night for 17.00 not bad for the qty and quality of the food. Although I do not drink they did have a very interesting wine and beer offerign as well.I would recommend this place for others who may think as I did that the price tag looked pretty high.
