Koala-T’s Quality is Slipping. Been a year since I last reviewed this restaurant but this review is not going to be as kind. We had a working lunch last week at work and had one of our staff pick up a number of plates from Koala-T because I had been raving about how good NC Bar-B-Que and in particular this place. The Bar-B-Que was horrible. Way too fatty to the point that there was not enough bread to cover up the taste. Portions were huge but at the same time, the reason we all had meat left over was not the size of the portions but rather the quality. It just was not there.Hush puppies were like hockey pucks in that they were way overcooked. Nothing in the meal stood out as being representative of good NC Bar-B-Que. I hope the visitors to our company from Florida and Nebraska do not think that this offering was typical of what NC Bar-B-Que is all about.18 Feb, 2011Real Lexington Style NC BBQ. Was in the mood for NC Pork BBQ and one of the guys who works for me recommended this place. I’m glad he did.I ordered a BBQ sandwich with Red Slaw and it was not only excellent, the portions are HUGE. BBQ is cooked just right. I’ts still moist with a smoky taste and has bits of the outer bark mixed in. The slaw was excellent as well.Only thing I would change with the BBQ is the sauce they serve on the side. This was a Lexington style tomato based sauce and I personally prefer the Eastern NC pepper vinegar type. To each his own but it was still good. It’s a little hard to find tucked in behind the Cool Springs VFD off of US64 East. Everything is take out, no seating and they are only open to the public from 11A to 7P on Wed and Fridays. It’s still worth the trip.As a side, they also so by the name Port-A-Pit BBQ.
