It’s hard to find a great calabash style seafood place. Captain Tom’s, unfortunately, is not such a place – it is, however, an adequate one. We had catfish, jumbo shrimp, popcorn shrimp, and oysters. They were all average. Service is fine, as is the atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, they had the absolute cleanest salt-water fish tank I have ever seen outside of an aquarium, with a good selection of fish too. On a side note, why is the average customer age of every calabash seafood place around here 75 years old? Do younger folks just not like fried seafood? Regardless of your age, I think the Walkertown Seafood Shack does fried seafood better than Captain Tom’s.
Decent Food . Outstanding service. Ordered baby flounder and popcorn shrimp. Shrimp could’ve been friend lounge. Flounder was perfect. Waitress named Marley, Fast quick and sweet. Will be asking for her upon return.

Excellent service, very clean, delicious. Nice place for large groups.
Great Fried Seafood. Had lunch here today, and I contiue to be impressed. This is a nice sized, well lit place with plenty of comfortable, roomy booths. It also has a large private dining area, and an oyster bar. They have a good sized menu featuring fried and boiled seafood, raw and steamed oysters, and an assortment of sandwiches – but the attraction here is the fried seafood, and they do it very well, and with good portions. The place was busy because they were having a large business group in the private dining area. We were seated quickly, and drink orders were taken. We ordered 2 combination plates, one with popcorn shrimp & flounder, and the other with fried oysters & white fish. Our order came in under 10 minutes. All the items were excellent, with the popcorn shrimp being outstanding – plenty of taste, fried perfectly, with no bits of meatless, fried coating – as good as I’ve had in this area. Both of the fish items were nice, with the flounder being perhaps a touch better than the white fish. The oysters, while not as plentiful as the shrimp, were of a decent count, and fried well, nice fresh taste. The slaw was flavorful cole slaw, the fries were very good, the hush puppies good and plentiful, and their tartar sauce the best I’ve has since Friendly Road Inn closed a number of years back – nice, thick, & with a touch of onion.Service was great, drinks refilled on a timely manner, and with an offer of a to go cup. Total with drinks and tax was just over $19, good value in my view.
The Yard Bird Rocks!. I always like eating the chicken when I come here. They have quite possibly the best chicken strips I’ve ever eaten. But wait, you say, this is a seafood joint! Yeah. You’re right – I’m originally from Maryland and think this place is too far inland for me to even give the seafood a chance, so I eat the chicken.. and it’s good!
