Don’t get the sword fish. Worst I’ve had. The other food and service was excellent. Had to send the food back. No adjustment on the bill which I would expect.

Great Special Occasion Choice. This place has been here for over 21 years and somehow this was our first visit – so many places, so little time – and yet some folks worry about how they’ll fill their time when they finally retire – a seasoned foodie has no such concerns. Overall this was a very positive dining experience, and we will revisit. This is an eclectically decorated restaurant, have morphed somewhat from its original French/Continental beginnings – it is mostly modern, dimly lit, with the tables and booths too close together to foster any real feeling of intimacy or romance. Actually the night we were there (a Monday) the high tables at the bar would have been the quietest place in the house. So no soft and fuzzy here. But the food and the service were quite nice, and the pricing was generally good, with one exception. We tried an appetizer which was new to the menu – The Curious Geisha – which consisted of 3 sushi rolls featuring yellow fin tuna, teriyaki steak, and crab. The tuna roll was especially nice because it included pineapple, and the taste contrasts were exceptional. Don’t know that I’d get all my sushi here, but this was well done. The second app was a classic Escargot presentation, and was the only real misstep of the evening. I love escargot done in that classic way with simple garlic butter, and order it almost every time it is available. But this was just a bad dish with escargot that were awful – in taste (near rancid) and texture – should have sent it back, but I rarely do.My wife had a special – Pan Seared NC Grouper with Asian spices, cilantro, sticky rice, and a nice crab/pine nut mixture underneath. The fish was fresh, very well cooked, and beautifully plated – the sticky rice was a nice touch. I ordered the Grilled Filet of Beef (Circa 1992) with Roquefort crumbles, Potatoes Anna, sauce bordelaise, and market vegetables – a dish that has been on the menu since the restaurant in 1992. Perfectly cooked to order with excellent flavor – a fine dish. Their take on Potatoes Anna differed from the classic layered presentation (see the posted picture), but was tasty, though not as rich as one would expect from this dish. For dessert, we tried the Key Lime Pie (ok, but not the traditional variety, more evaporated milk, custard texture and taste), and the Crme Brule, which was excellent, and one of the largest servings I’ve run into.Service was excellent – attentive and helpful – time out of the kitchen was very good, and the overall cost was not bad – except for the filet (8 oz. or so) at $35.95 is on the high side. But this was a nice experience. We’ll be back.
