Better than Mooresville Location but Still Lacking. A couple of weeks ago, I tried the Sports Page Food and Spirit in Mooresville and found the service to be excellent but the quality of the food lacking. Decided to try the Denver location tonight to give this small chain a second chance and see if the problems were isolated or ingrained in the culture. It was a totally different dining experience but unfortunately I have to give them poor marks for different reasons hence is not a cultural issue. The Mooresville location had great service but poor food. The service at this location is not there. The hostess when we walked in was distracted by counting here tips and ignored everyone and at one pont, waling back into the kitchen leaving her post. When we did get seated, we had to go another table and steal silverware and menu’s because we had no server. Self serve at a new level. My wife order a Monte Cristo and I reverted back to a traditional Old Fashioned Grinder served au jus with fries on the side. The food was better prepared than Mooresville but there were still problems. Unlike last time in Mooresville, at least the fries were cooked completely so I have to give them credit for that. The Grinder would have been very good if the restaurant had opted to buy a better quality meat. The Grinder was virtually devoid of flavor and the meat was full of gristle and very chewy. Au Jus was very weak and had none of the bold flavor characteristic of a good dip.My wifes indicated that here Monte Cristo was OK but only OK. Nothing to write home about. This restaurant is a step above Mooresville but unfortunately still need work to get up to where it should be.

Great Place to Eat. After a horrible experience at Midtown Sundries we walked out and came to The Sports Page (see previous review of Midtown.) The Sports Page is a great place to eat with terrific food and a very friendly staff. The prices are reasonable and the staff seems to genuinely care about their customers. They have been established for over 25 years (2 locations in the area) and there is a reason why. They have some of the best wings I have ever had and a very wide range of foods. Not just typical bar food but also down home favorites including seafood, and daily specials. I have never been disappointed and will always be a customer.
Really enjoy the food….. Love the Lunch Menu–and Lydia runs the bar area fantastically….the rich chicken soup served in the bread basket was phenominal—the food overall—have had many dishes there is good–and the service was fast–later in the evening I have found the waitresses have found better things to do like watch TV–rather than wait on the customers…however they did serve the food hot…just slow on drink orders and slow on refills ( ie: sweet tea)–but overall–good food–good prices–and lots of fun.
Service. Sports Page used to be such a favorite of mine as a Denver resident. However, the place could use some serious improvement. Lets start with the quality of their waitstaff. Our server, I believe her name was Erica, appeared to be nice at first but I over heard her badmouthing other servers, and gossiping about someone sitting at the table just next to me. I found this very unprofessional. I was disappointed, and definitely didn’t appreciate the lack of sophistication of the waitstaff. thumbs down.
Yum…mostly.. I’ve been to Sports Page many many times, and tonight was the only time I’ve been let down.I got the blackened shrimp pasta and it was so gluey I could eat only 1/4 of it. The shimp were also boiled, not blackened in the least. My side salad was good.My kids got the chicken tenders which are magnificent. They have a slightly sweet breading that is addicting! My son got his tossed in buffalo sauce. My husband got the chef salad, and it was good. They use a nice mesculin mix, with iceberg, and I like the combo. The dressing is homemade, another plus.My favorite things here are normally the Cuban sandwich, the chicken gumbo and the pot pie (which I’ve only seen on special at lunch).
