The staff was very friendly. Overall the dishes were on the salty side. Beer was super cold served in a beautiful frosty mug. Masitas de Res were dry. The flan is more like cheesecake, not authentic but good. The chicken with shrimp in red sauce was very tasty.
After an hour and ten minutes we still didn’t have our dinner and three tables walked out.. When my boyfriend and I arrived at Caribbean Cafe we were not welcomed. The lady at the bar saw that we came in the door and took her time coming over to us. After she sat us we waited for 20 minutes waiting for a waitress to bring us menus. When the waitress finally came over she took our drink order and then came back 5 minutes later to clean the table beside us so she could seat a family of 10 people. About 5 minutes later she returned with our waters and took our order. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees.I noticed there was a table behind us who arrived earlier and all they had were their drinks. After we had been there for a total of an hour with no appetizer much less our entrees, I turned around and asked the table behind us how long they had been waiting, to which they replied over an hour. The lady that I spoke to said she had ordered a frozen drink and was waiting for their appetizer to come out so she could start drinking, now her drink had melted and all she had was a watery drink. At this time the family of 10 I mentioned earlier gave up and walked out. The family behind us also got up and left. I decided to give the restaurant 10 more minutes and see if our appetizer would arrive. Well, the appetizer never arrived and a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes was waisted and we along with two other tables never got fed and ended up walking out. Personally, I have never had such terrible service at a restaurant. I have received more friendly human interaction, an order taken in a timely fashion and my food delivered to me quickly at a Denny’s then I did at Caribbean Cafe. The sad thing is most of their tables were empty, so you can’t say they were slammed. Good luck getting your meal if you go here. I will never try Caribbean Cafe again. For me, the first impression is the last impression.
Decent food and certainly worth a try for the variety of flavors but I was surprised by the higher prices. Next time I will just swing on for an orchata and a chorizo and tostones appetizer.
Food was excellent. Service was fantastic. This place has the best flan in NC! Definitely going back again soon.
Unimpressive-Left Hungry!!. Old pork has a very distinct repugnant flavor- you can certainly find it at this place. Stopped in for the especiales diarios (lunch specials) and orderd the Masita de cerdo frita (fried pork chunks)- Bad choice! Pork was old, tasted horrible, no Latin flavor or seasonongs and worst of all, it wasn’t even fried! Major dissapointment- could not eat the crap. Came with a side order of rice and beans-the beans were definitely Dominican and were superb, just not enough- and the rice was perfect as well (difficult to screw up rice tho)- the Presidente was cold and fresh (no skunky flavor). The waitress was a sweetheart- attentive with just the right amount of friendly banter. Overall, I rate the experience with 2 stars out of 5 with 5 being perfect. Due to a paucity of Dominican oriented dining venues here in the Raleigh/Durham area, I will give this place another shot within the next few days or so. Hopefully, today’s experience was a fluke and not indicative of the establishment’s true flavor.
Good Cheap Food. I have had the Mondongo & Fish Cod dishes so far they have both turned out good. The waitress was very friendly and not bad on the eyes. The service is pretty quick. I have been on my 1hr lunch and i have plenty of time left over.I will definetely visit again.
Good people-watching and large portions.. Nothing fancy about this place, but good food.If somehow you had transported there while sleeping, I think you’d wake-up thinking you were in Puerto Rico (judging by the food and the colorful customers). The service was terrible the first night we were there, so be prepared to hound the wait-staff.Still, portions are generous and tasty. The margaritas are way too sweet and syrupy.
