Really Good. I am mystified and slightly amused by the whiny people who don’t like that it’s an Irish bar serving Mediterranean food. WHO CARES! The owner is from the Middle East, ya know and he is awesome! My favorite is the chicken shwarma with fries and a cesear salad. Sometimes I’ll order an extra meal to take home for lunch the next day. Back when it was Solomon’s, there was a chicken fingers meals on the kids menu and it was incredible! It was handbreaded and sauteed chicken, a definite cut above most places that use frozen chicken tenders and throw them in grease to be deep-fried. Wish they would be brought back as an appetizer.
Odd. I can’t review on their food as I didn’t eat it. I walked in, asked for a menu before grabbing a seat and, to say the least, this place has no focus and is absolutely no where near an Irish Pub. Sure, there’s a boxty (only one – chicken) but then there’s Chicken Shawarma. Would you like your Fish and Chips with a side of hummus? We walked out. Seldom can a restaurant survive by claiming to be a particular type and then have a menu that doesn’t match. They need to trim the middle eastern dishes off the menu, and focus on authentic Irish dishes. Instead of one Boxty, have several. Heck, even throw in a middle eastern option as one of the fillings. Maybe have tzatziki as an optional condiment. I think ordering Fish and Chips with a side of tzatziki would be interesting…
Continual train wreck. 1:15 sitting at the bar, no lunch menu at arms reach, the bartender has to ask a server to get me a glass of water? Saints and Scholars Pub. What a grave disappointment this place is, especially since it was the finest and most authentic Irish pub outside of Ireland under the previous management and staff as Ballymoor. My family and I recently went there for a late lunch arriving after 2pm. After placing our drink order, I inquired about ordering off the dinner menu in order to get the hoped for bangers and mash; we were informed that they don’t have that on the menu any longer. I said well your website says that your chef is direct from Ireland and was promptly informed that the website isn’t up to date….strike two. For an advertised Irish pub, the only two items on the menu that even remotely appeared Irish was fish and chips and a rueben…..strike three and we should have been out of there. Instead, giving it a chance, we ordered the fish and chips. I can honestly say that I’ve had better fish and chips from the local grocer’s freezer section than that meal, it took 10 minutes for it to arrive and the cost for one meal was more than I could have prepared for the three of us at home. The service was terrible and there were only four tables in the entire restaurant the whole time we were there. The waitress was very non engaging, she was slow to check back on the tables and I even had to go to the back to look for someone to pay for this terrible excuse for a meal. If you want better fish……go to MacDonalds……the drive thru staff is much better and you won’t feel like you have just been robbed. The only thing the new management did right was to keep the interior as it was when it was Ballymoor. What a shame that Ballymoor is gone. I’d love to know where the previous chefs/owners are! This is such a loss for north Raleigh.
Used to be Great, Under New Mgmt now. Last night I went to Saints and Scholars. It is a regular spot I used to love and it was the last night my best friend was in town. As we arrived, I noticed the new lights and tables and I was like wow nice. Then I saw the sign that said ‘under new management’? Got a seat on the patio about 7:45. Was thinking there would be music as usual for Friday night at 8, but no one was set up. I also noticed that where I am usually happy to get one of the last outside tables, only about two tables were taken and no normal crowd. I got more apprehensive. I prepared to order without looking at the menu, but I glanced at my friend’s and it looked different. So I checked and noticed several items were gone, then I looked and fish and chips was raised $4 to $16.99!!! Things like onion rings and sliders with corned beef were missing. In their place was hummus and gyros? In an Irish pub? All the prices were higher. We immediately walked. What did you do? I am done with you now.
Very dog friendly. We took our pup over there because we heard the fish and chips was good. The food was forgetable, but the ambiance was very nice with the fire pits going and a live band. We will go back and try something else but overall a nice place to spend a summer evening.
Not Ballymoor. Now that the pub was bought out, it’s not as good as it used to be AT ALL. When it first opened, the wait staff was amazing – friendly, prompt, knowledgeable. Now? A joke, most days. There are a few waitresses that are friendly, but others can be downright rude, snarky, and unhelpful. They don’t have a drink menu any longer (so if you want something on draft, be prepared to walk into the bar and look, for example). The food is alright still (nothing to write home about). It’s a shame – it had such a great atmosphere, location and potential when it first opened. It’s not worth my return now.
