Terrific Burgers… (of course). Seems like not much has changed in the years it’s been open… but what the heck.. if it ain’t broke..don’t fix it!Best part is they are now open for dinner as well… much easier to get to for those in CLT.Fries are just OK… O Rings are great as well.
I’m glad some people like it. I think its funny that people get worked up over not allowing the cellphone. Give it a rest while you are eating anyway. I ironically found this place while watching some show about hamburgers on tv. They had Duke’s on there and I happened to be in Monroe on business and it was 2 miles from my hotel. Next day I went there, left phone in car, ordered hamburger and onion rings and hated it. I had to salt hamburger twice, very bland. Onion rings soggy and cold. I’m not sure how this place made it on tv other than the tradition. I’m happy that most like the place because it seems like a nice friendly restaurant.
It was ok. Burgers were good, fries not so much, and the chilli on the hot dog was more like ketchup. Probably better known by the locals. I would not make a special trip for it.
Uhhh… What now?. I went into Duke’s Grill today for lunch. I got a soda, a cheeseburger (no crazy extras… just Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato), and a small order of hush puppies. While the flavor was pretty good (the burgers seemed to be hand pattied there, not frozen patties), and the service was excellent…. when my bill came out to $10.14, I was shocked, to say the least. I will NOT be going back to Duke’s based on pricing alone. There are too many little grills in the area with equal quality and customer service for me to spend $10 on a basic lunch here.
Pretty good, a little overpriced, but still good! Order the fried bologna sandwich with chili and slaw..sounds weird but pretty delicious.
