Dining is not just about the food, to me it includes the entire experience. I do not believe any review should be based on a one time visit. No one is always perfect. My husband and I have been to Capt’n Ratty’s several times. It is not fine dining here, it is as they represent themselves to be, a great place to go to enjoy some casual upscale bar food in a fun atmosphere. They make a wonderful Ruben andthe shrimp and seafood is always good. The beers are cold and fresh and the tap lines are clean. The staff for the most part, are upbeat,and friendly. They have a nice wine bar upstairs and roof top dining, (which I have not had the pleasure of doing yet). I always leave here smiling. So for me it is a thumbs up.Just Saying!!!!!!
This is a nice place to invite friends to a very casual dinner or lunch. They have nice burgers and great onion rings. It is a cramped environment, so be prepared.
Very good. Came through town for lunch, and really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food. We ordered fish-n-chips, which wasn’t on the lunch menu… delicious. Also had cannonball shrimp with jalapeo ranch sauce and sweet potato fries. Would definitely come back.
Just had first dinner here. Seated in the wine bar. Great atmosphere and enjoyed the recorded music. Very pleasant and attentive service. Appetizers and entrees delicious. They really miss out in presentation of very fine food by using cheap plastic containers of side salad dressing, packaged sour cream and butter for baked potatoes, and Tollhouse crackers with nice gormet cheese plate.
Over-priced and disappointing.. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 pm. The restaurant was less than half full downstairs where we were seated. The waitress took our order before 7pm. We did not receive our meals until after 7:30. No one ordered anything out of the ordinary, burgers, salads and a couple of sandwiches and some grilled shrimp. The shrimp was expensive at 18.99 and there were only seven very over cooked shrimp on the plate. One person in our party didn’t receive their meal until 5 minutes after everyone else. We never got the beer we ordered at the beginning of the meal either. Something else sort of fishy…The fresh catch of the day was salmon. I highly doubt that this is even possible on the coast of NC. Very disappointed.

The food is extremely tasty. In downtown New Bern, an old historical building. The owners are very hands on and caring.
