As good as ever. We were also there on Cinco de Mayo and, surprise, it was busy. But, we did not wait long, the food and beverages were served promptly, and the quality was as good as ever. Despite the other review, this remains a good place to eat and drink.06 May, 2011Our favorite. This has certainly become our favorite mexican restaurant in New Bern. The quality and variety of food is a cut above other places and typical mexican restaurants in general. Service is friendly and quick. The only problem is that I like a couple of items so much, I do not tend to try any of the other many choices on the menu.
Dreadful!! We had to wait over an hour to be seated. I think they forgot about us. The staff is totally disorganized and incredibly slow. We had to ask for things over and over again. They brought out the appetizers the same time as the meals. The meals didn't even come out together and they totally forgot about the 3 year olds meal which was finally brought out after everyone else was practically finished and they still had the nerve to charge us for it. The food lacked seasoning and was extremely bland!! I would NOT recommend this place at all.
Good food & great service. Have enjoyed eating at el tequila since moving to new bern 6 months ago. had dinner there tonight and the food was excellent……but where in the world is Fernando?????????my favorite waiter is gone!!!!! sad sad day for me and my family.
Have enjoyed eating at El tequila for over a year now and have become to look forward to Friday nights there with my friends. Fernand has always been my waiter and out of them all he is the best. Always smiling and friendly. Ask for him and tell him Carolyn sent you……foods good to.
Food portions are excellent, great patio seating and dog friendly on the patio. Service was excellent. The food was delicious and they keep the beers coming. Keep up the good work.
Hidden Treasure. El Tequila has, hands down, the best Mexican food in New Bern. I’ve been to Arturo’s numerous times and used to be a regular patron at El Cerro Grande. Since I ate at El Tequila the first time, I haven’t stepped foot in another Mexican restaurant! Like most Mexican restaurants in the area, the staff is very friendly and attentive and the portions are excellent. What sets El Tequila apart is the taste of the food. Since so many dishes are centered around shredded chicken or ground beef, if those have no flavor, it really takes away from the dish. The seasonings used on the chicken and ground beef at El Tequila are actually detectable, unlike other restaurants where they are very bland. My fiance is from Texas and he says the food is the closest he’s found (in this area) to the more authentic Mexican he’s accustomed to. The only bad thing about the restaurant is the location. It is located sort of behind Harris Teeter/beside Applebees. Definitely check out the Arroz con Pollo and the Special Dinner!
