Cold food. I was extremely disappointed when I ate at Shelby Cafe on 2/24/2015. We got there around 2:10 pm, and had poor service. It took forever for the wait staff to wait on us. And the cafe only had around 15 customers. Tweny minutes after ordering our food, it made it to our table. However, it was all cold! Cheeseburger, French fries, and my vegetable plate. Even the sweet potato casserole was cold. We will not eat there again.

Best Country Ham breakfast anywhere. This is a nostalgic diner from days gone by in downtown Shelby. I dropped in for breakfast and ordered the Country Breakfast with ham, eggs over medium, grits and a biscuit. The ham was the largest and most tender country ham I have had in 20 years. The large homemade biscuit, one is enough. Gotta go back and try this place for dinner sometime! An instant favorite.
Home cooking. If you like the old style diner-and-drive-in local real food type places, you’ll love Shelby Cafe. Every Southern town used to have one or two of these great meat-and-two veggie type cafe’s but they’re fast fading. Squash casserole, buttermilk cornbread, fried pkra were all terrific. Good black eyed peas. This place prides itself on its insane desserts, we were too full and not quite insane enough but were mighty tempted.PS: They have country style steak on Wednesdays, getting hard to find the real thing.
Good food.. We had breakfast here and loved it. The restaurant was clean, and the wait staff was clean. The food was excellent.
