  This place was great. Our waiter was awesome. The food was great. The restaurant was clean and we loved the railroad theme! A great experience and we will definitely be back!

  Petticoat Junction Anyone. Decided to try the Statesville Boxcar Grille for lunch yesterday and I will admit, I was pleasantly surprised.The train and train station motiff is a bit overdone, especially with the ticket booth in the lobby but it’s still a fun place and they do keep the theme throughout the restaurant and onto the menu.Service is very good and fast. For lunch I ordered the Southwest Chicken Sandwich with Fries. The Southwest Chicken would be called Buffalo Chicken anyplace else. It had a fair amount of heat to it, was properly cooked and the portions are huge. I was stuffed when I left the restaurant. The fries are OK but could use about a 5 – 10 degree increase in cooking temperature. You can tell that the quality of the potatoes used to make the fries was excellent.The Sweet Tea was very good but the first glass of tea I had had an almost burnt taste to it. The second glass and subsequent refills were perfect however.Good food, a whimsical atmosphere, friendly efficent service and more than reasonable prices make for a great lunch. I would suggest to anyone and it’s right off of I-40 at Exti 148.

  Have been here several times and never been thrilled with food. I really like their fried breadsticks. The country fried steak is slightly above average. Salad bar is ok. Everything else I’ve tried is average or below. One visit we waited 15 minutes before any service so we just got up and left. Don’t think I will be back.
